Women are judged BY SOCIETY (not by themselves) when they fail to have a baby. Some more avante-guard cultures might be open to illegitimate children, IVF children, children to homosexual couples BUT until a woman has a child (or is on a trajectory for one) there’s something deficit about her.

Women who want to have babies (but can’t) may be pitied but women who have absolutely no interest in kids and would rather dulge in sex, food or hobbies are stigmatised.

This has the side effect of poor mental health, shame and what’s-wrong-with-me ism for under women and entitlement to a family for men.
