In my personal opinion, it is no longer necessary. It was originally used as a mark of God’s chosen people. But after the events of the New Testament, wherein everyone is the “chosen one”, it should not be necessary any longer.

Because women like the naked penis. In medical terms it is an extremely invasive act, but people will throw so many excuses. In reality they do it because men are expendable and they don't care that they can ruin a man if things don't go well. Men have been trying to get circumcision banned and outlawed for years but all we've had is ridicule in response.

The 1996 federal law against FGM was struck down by the Supreme Court in November 2018.

Sadly it wasn't due to the law's sexism, which only prohibited genital cutting for girls, not boys. Instead, the Court ruled FGM to be a local criminal activity - a matter for individual states to regulate.

At the time, only 27 states had laws banning FGM, surprisingly making the procedure legal again in the other ~23 states.

The method used by the Dawoodi Bohra sect in the USA v Nagarwala case is just a tiny nick on the clitoral hood (with sterilized medical tools), leaving otherwise fully fuctional genitalia.

As other states introduce laws against genital cutting for girls, there will be more opportunities to argue that equal protection either bans or permits it for both sexes. If female cutting is always illegal, with no exceptions for religion, then male cutting is equally prohibited. Alternatively, if religious beliefs do allow an exemption, like for cutting boys in Judaism and Islam, then cutting girls is similarly allowed.

I know its a uniquely American issue, because the US still has a significant Jewish population who consider this disgusting practice to be some kind of ritual. I live in a European country and as far as i know it doesnt happen as a standard practice anywhere in Europe. I think its highly likely this is because of the lack of any significant Jewish populations in Europe. If Americans want to solve this issue, which they should, start with their barbaric cult.

I'm (39M) getting circumcised later this month actually. Not for religious reasons. I am suffering with phimosis.

I agree that the religious idea of circumcision is ridiculous, but the medical reasons are valid. I would get my son circumcised at birth in order to avoid the complications I had. My father had to get circumcised in his 50s also.

A little background, my family in Indian Hindu. Males typically do not get circumcised.

Urologists study the practice of circumcision and can probably elaborate more on why men need them. They are the same doctors that do vasectomies.

Look, I'm 51, I was circumcised, I don't remember it, I didn't remember it when I was 10 years old either. If it hurt, I don't remember. In short, I couldn't give a sh*t that my parents wanted me to be circumcised. My parents are Catholic, so I assume it was either a religious or cultural decision, but does being circumcised affect me in any way, shape or form? NO! I don't think twice about it, except for the fact that the rare times I've ever seen an uncircumcised penis, I think it looks really weird, which is probably the same for someone in a reverse situation. Did you see a 5yr old, 10 yr old, 15 yr old male circumcised? If so, maybe it is more traumatic, but if you saw an infant go through it, I'd say your overreacting imho. I could be wrong, but I believe female circumcision happens at an 'advanced' age, which is much different. I'm frankly, happy I'm circumcised, but I'm sure I'd be equally fine if I was uncircumcised.

Circumcision is far from barbaric assuming it's done properly and in a first world country. I'm glad I was circumcised, Uncut just looks weird to me. I'd never date an uncut guy.
