In the original the Little Mermaid fairytale, the mermaid ended up willingly sacrificing her family and her life for a prince she barely knew. Nah sis. Unfortunately this happens in the real world. There are women who willing sacrifice their jobs and move abroad for some guy in another country they had only talked to on OLD only to be killed by them.

Even as a little girl, I hated Disney and it all felt like one big propaganda piece. I found it weird no one had moms or their moms were always killed and it was noticeable because I was a latch key kid whose mom was never around. Then I found out a little later they just ripped off fairy tales and made them advertiser and family friendly. Now I just think it's the worst thing you could ever let little girls watch.

I always loved belle because all she wanted was to read books and be left alone but the whole movie showed was deal with his anger issues, rudeness, and violent tendencies and he’ll turn into a prince because you “ sAw THrOuGh iT” nope you tolerated abuse

Check - Narnia, Barbie (except a few) and always and always Studio Ghibili.

I honestly attribute a large part of my former pickmeisha ways to Disney movies, Hallmark movies, teen magazines, teen pop, and teen movies. They mess you up, and make you hyper-focused on men and relationships. I was never encouraged to explore STEM subjects, and was frequently ostracized for being a "tomboy" bc I liked being outside and played sports.

I don't know what impresses me more here, the tired victim-blaming and weird slut-shaming undertone, or the fact that it's almost 2021 and people are still so dumb about Disney movies. Or how this stuff keeps getting karma on a supposedly pro-woman sub.

Snow was an abuse survivor who fled for her life, survived the terrifying forest, survived almost being murdered TWICE, used good judgment in agreeing to use the skills she had (housekeeping) in exchange for food and shelter. She even made herself a new family and had fun while she was hiding. Most people aren't tough enough to do that. Not sure what's problematic there. Snow was my comfort character when I escaped my abusive mom and I connected to her WAY more than some of the newer heroines that are too superhuman to relate to.

Why is this sub of grown women so fixated with trashing cartoon princesses? (Especially when there is actually bad media out there.) It definitely has a "not like other girls", hypocritically pick-me edge to it. I see it almost every time I visit and it's disappointing. There's real stuff like 50 Shades and such that teach actually harmful ideas.
