The line sucks, but consider the fact that Gus is basically using his own family against him. On a meta level (which is VERY important on this show) Vince Gilligan is making a point about how men no longer have any real choice left once they have a wife & kids. They are his weakness and you can make him do anything by holding them over his head. On a subtext level (which is also important on this show) Walt has always used his family as a shield to justify his own actions in his head right from the beginning to absolve himself of guilt, and Gus knows it. Gus doesn't appear to have any family of his own, so he is essentially a MGTOW knowing just how to work a Blue Piller's nature against him.

Walt (last or later episodes) says he really did it because 'he wanted to and not for anyone else'.

Really the whole show is about Walt stopping doing what a man is supposed to.

Keep watching. You'll love a simple five word sentence Walt utters in the series finale. Very MGTOWesque.

I agree with others on here; Gustavo was manipulating Walt in a manner that he knew would work.

I am re-watching Breaking Bad currently and it is interesting to watch Walt struggle between the red pill and blue pill. There are scenes when he really focuses on just himself and leaves the beta shit behind: when he puts Skyler in her place (multiple scenes), when he stone-faced lies to family or friends to get them off his back so he can do what he wants, when he skips his daughter's birth so he can secure a business deal, and when he starts murdering the competition or threats so he can remain in control.

However, there are scenes when he slips back into his former beta-self: when he tries sweet-talking or explaining himself to Skyler, when he allows Skyler to make decisions for him, and when he has his break down moments of self-loathing and reproach. You can watch him go back and form between cold-hearted bad-ass and pussy-whipped simp during the entire series.

And slowly but surely he leaves behind the beta (Walt) and transforms into the alpha (Heisenberg).

Gus Fring was a high-functioning sociopath and would have said anything he believed would get him the outcome he wanted (Walt cooking his meth).

That conversation should be a lesson in not only how women deal with men, but how people will try to use you. Women, and manipulators in general, try to attack men personally at where men appear to be weak.

Gus is using shaming language against Walt and it works because Walt views himself primarily as a human ATM, a beta provider, whose sole value to his family is pumping cash into it. Gus appeals to Walt's vision of himself while subtly implying that he will be acting against his provider role if he doesn't cook meth for Gus.

The best way to avoid being manipulated by anyone is to figure what the manipulator actually wants from you, decide whether what they want actually benefits you, then reject their proposal on the basis that they presented what they want from on in a dishonest, manipulative fashion. Even if it does benefit you, you cannot allow someone to believe they have permission to lie to you and manipulate you.

Well, you know what? I go against the flow but I truly believe Gus is right.

Once you have responsibility, it's a coward's way to escape it.

It's our honour as men to provide whenever necessary.

The problem is not with the providing, the problem is that women are crazy nowadays, and it's a rotten deal to start with. You get dumped, you get divorce-raped, you get cheated upon, nagged, deprived of sex, disrespected and abused. Rotten deal, so I'm out.

But I truly believe if a man takes a wife (nonetheless) and makes kids, his responsibility is to provide for his family. This is what we do, this is what we always did.

I nearly gave up on BB during the 1st show, then I realised that all the characters were negative roll models. Neither WW nor his side kick had any hobbies or physical activities. It was either trying to please others or just tuning out of life. As for Skyler the talking pillow episode was hell, but just about everyone had some ball and chain. So the above quote reinforced WWs self image as a slave who couldn't even enjoy the money.

The show is about men's struggle with wearing the pants. Walt's pants lying in the desert, Jesse and Walt exchanging sarcastic "good job wearing the pants" lines to each other, etc.

Walt's lung cancer came from second hand smoke from Skyler.

His desire to take control of his life in his dying days? He put up with his cunty, controlling wife for so long.

Gus is a genius who knows exactly what to say to Walter at that moment to manipulate him. What Gus said is the exact reason why Walter started to cook meth in the first place: he's the man of the family and he must do anything he can to provide for them even after he's dead and even if it means producing drugs.

i don't see it. to me Gus was talking more about being a man that earns money and providing for his kids. I don't think that is brainwashing at all, i think that is a relevant point.

I think most men here are into wealth/money gain as well as being good and strong men. for many that would include having and providing for kids. but men here aren't into it because we're more anti-woman and feminism and modern marriage to go after it.

actually i think this quote is pretty mgtow. he's basically saying no matter what, don't be a beta slave loser, you gotta have your own backbone and provide for those around you if you have a family. you have to work and be a strong person.

I don't think most mgtow would say you shouldn't provide in a marriage as well. most men would be fine giving and contributing money to a woman/kids in marriage. its the fact they expect to have it all, fuck Chad, clear your bank account and then get whats left in a divorce that really makes the mgtow man.
