Exactly. I used to be one of those "I follow what my heart wants" women. Because... feelings. Because to me I didn't have the strength to wallow in sadness and loneliness to break an unhealthy relationship off.

I finally woke up and realized how less lonely it is to be alone, than belong in a bad relationship. I used to always stare at my ex husband's back before I went to sleep and when I woke up, always thinking "is this what life should be? Because it's so damn disappointing and hollow and lonely".

When I did leave, and also got rid of the LVMs just wanting to use me for sex, it was difficult. But as time passed and I got into a new normal, I realized how at peace I was. Nobody was playing mind games with me and giving me a fucked up view of my worth when I worked too damn hard on myself to be treated like that. Nobody was there to please, nobody was there to critique the things I loved doing for myself.

Oh yes!!! Great saying. I am so proud of myself for overcoming my feelings and ending it with a guy that wouldn't commit to me last year. Although I miss the chemistry and sex, I haven't turned back since out of respect for myself and my goals. This is miles ahead of how I used to be.

Protip: what really are the "feelings"? It's usually not "love". Often it's fear of isolation, worry about insufficiency, jealousy, lust, needing validation... Balled up into "feelings", and manipulated by dating partners playing.
