Like a drug addict they put themselves in situations where they can get that attention scrap regardless and at all costs.

This is why a lot of recovering Pickme's turn to alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, etc because they're trying to replace that dopamine rush and or fill that void. Over time as the shiny new substances wear off, the Pickme goes back to their original drug: LVM attention [but usually keeps consuming the former(s)].

The first step to recovery is to realize that you have a literal addiction, to seek help, and completely go cold turkey from all addictive substances.
