I don’t see how you could end up with people assuming your promiscuous if you’re going to be single and not dating a whole year! I feel like anyone who would presume that about you wouldn’t be worth your time, really.

Dress tastefully and don't sleep around. Perhaps lose the slutty friends, who pressure you to make poor life decisions. That's literally all you have to do.

They won't assume you've been promiscuous, unless you give them reasons to assume so. Some of them can be: - seeing you with many different men - seeing you in revealing clothes on a regular basis, with odd hair, piercings and tattoos - finding put that you started partying a lot, as well as abusing substances

I didn't date for three years in my mid twenties and no one even really questioned it. You don't need to explain yourself, it's really not that uncommon not to date for whatever reason!

People will not assume you've been promiscuous just because you took yourself of the dating market in order to improve your life. What leads people to assume this has a lot to do with how you come across, what kind of people you're around, and what you do in social settings.

Dressing with class and taste, and not to explicitly sexualize your body, will put you several steps above the other girls your age who routinely dress way too provocatively whenever they go to a party or a club. I would also recommend not drinking or using drugs to excess, as this can lead you to be more impulsive and reckless. I found that giving up alcohol altogether helped me stop making stupid decisions and forced me to actually learn to talk and socialize at parties, but you may be able to have a glass of wine at a housewarming without any problems -- just know your limits.

Most importantly, if you have friends who are promiscuous and/or engage in sexual behavior that you find really off-putting, I would avoid accompanying them to situations where they might go to hook up (e.g. the club). In general, just don't what they're doing. If they consistently try to pressure you or tease you for being a prude, then they're not really your friends. Be aware, though, that you will probably start to look at your girlfriends differently and perhaps wish to associate with another crowd, especially if they talk with you about their sex lives. This was definitely the case for me.

I don't get why this is an issue. You are taking a year off dating, and I assume sex, to improve yourself. Nobody has any right to question why you are doing it. Any one that does is not worth dating anyway.

I don’t recommend caring about what others think too much but I think I can see where you’re coming from.

I’d recommend picking up a couple of hobbies you can talk about. You don’t have to throw yourself into anything just do enough that you can tell nosy people about it and they might just assume you’re too busy with the hobbies to be promiscuous.

For real though, other people’s assumptions about you say more about them than they do about you

Date no. Sleep around yes. Get to know men of varying degree and be smart on who you give yourself to at your own discretion. I took a year of celibacy after a breakup, Learned about many topics and attended a lot of different activities and sports. It helped me create value within myself and a have a better idea of what i'm looking for in a partner. Just tell your parents your taking time to do things for yourself, they don't need to know about your dating life.
