Lol those are words pronunced by men who don't want to be accountable for their atrocious behavior. They think that as long as their intentions aren't to hurt you (although they don't really care if they do), you can't blame them. It's a total red flag because they are basically telling you that they will never accept any responsability whatsoever.
You don't have to actively want to hurt someone to actually hurt them. If he doesn't understand that, he has the emotional intelligence of a rock.
