The whole not gifting on v-day, christmas, birthdays thing reminds me of how pick-me (and miserable because of it) I used to be. I used to say that it was materialistic and too cliche (ouch), but deep down, I'd be dying inside because I'd see women out there carrying bouquets of flowers and gifts and my exes were okay leaving me empty-handed. I used to pride myself on being "low maintenance" 🤡. I cringe hard when I look back at my pick-me days. I attracted lvm/nvm because of how eagerly I put it out there that I didn't require much effort and to prove I was NLOG. Gone are the days of my internalized misogyny. No or low effort = gtfo.

My ex (LVM) when I first met him, said “I’m the worst gift giver. You’ll have to tell me what you want.” CRINGE. I should’ve ran far, far away at that moment. That was a major red flag and it was telling me exactly how my relationship was going to be: ONE SIDED. You live and you learn. He put no effort into our relationship. He was love avoidant. Emotionally unavailable.

I left him 11 weeks ago. I will never settle for a LVM again! I’m putting so much work into myself, building my self-confidence and self-esteem. I am leveling up a little more each day. I am becoming so protective of myself and my peace. I am also REALLY enjoying being alone & single! I feel amazing.

I am not sure why, but term "love language" is really pissing me off. What the hell is it even? Seems to me like a poor excuse for low effort.

This is so true. Over the years I dated a few guys who were like this. They either "didn't do gifts" (one guy even thought it was materialistic to give gifts at all lol), or they were super low effort / shitty gift givers.

This reminded me of a funny and pathetic LVM story I have. A few years ago I was casually dating this guy who I was planning on ending things with, and I'm pretty sure he could sense that I was pulling away from him and becoming more distant. So one day he texted me saying he had a gift for me. I was really sick with a cold at the time so I told him it was going to have to wait, but he kept trying to insist that he wanted to give it to me in person. He literally called me 5 times in 5 minutes and just would not stop texting me, insisting it would just be a quick drop off.

Because he was being annoyingly pushy and I was sick, irritable and already planning on ending things with him, I texted him bluntly that I didn't think it was a good idea for me to accept the gift, I told him to keep it and that we are better off not seeing each other anymore. After sending me a wall of text about how he disagrees with me, this guy then sends me a picture of the "gift" he got me.. which was literally just 2 Hershey Kisses chocolates sitting atop a piece of cardboard. Not even a fucking package of chocolate, just 2 lone Hershey Kisses.

Nothing could have reaffirmed my decision to dump him more in that moment. Like, you actually thought that was a thoughtful gift? You actually had the balls to call and text me nonstop and you were going to show up to my house with this pathetic "gift" of 2 chocolates? LOL.. no words!!! This guy was in his early 30s too with a career, absolutely so excuse for such an embarrassing gesture. I still cringe revisiting this memory.

My ex, upon sitting down, said happily that he and I are going to get along after I told him I’ll pay for my meal. This was like date 2 or 3. I used to always feel uncomfortable with people treating me. Man, I should have taken that as a sign.

I used him now a template as for what I want in the future: my partner should pay for the first date and others down the line and be physically active (hiking is a big hobby of mine), child free, be a little in the know when it comes to politics and if possible send me flowers every 2-3 weeks(??)

Notice how I didn’t list things like they have to be kind, considerate and communicative bc bruh that should be the minimum for any relationship. Everything else is cool extra fluff.
