It's trueee though. I think my mother was in the last generation of south Asian women who had support from their families (not their in-laws or husbands) to raise children. Now? We have to work, bring home just as much bread, AND be full-time mothers/fathers.

Let's be real.. most men can't afford the wives they claim they want.

Why does it not show the egg and the pregnancy? I get that there's large amounts of labour, but the pregnancy, the risk of dying, the risk of permanent damage to you body, morning sickness, hormonal swings, the risk of genital mutilation after a pregnancy are also major factors.

Entire populations of Indian women are duped into motherhood, I think. They aren’t given sex education or informed about the consequences of child birth. Marital rape still isn’t a crime, so many children are probably products of rape. Women’s bodies are used as machines to pop out a boy, many of them undergo several pregnancies(and abortions) just to birth a son. It’s all terrible and terrifying. I hope more women in the coming generations opt out of marriage and child birth, that’s the only way to get governmental and societal attention regarding sex ed and women’s empowerment.

I dated a nice enough guy in college. Just wasn’t really clicking though. I left for a year abroad and when I came back, ran into him. He’d started dating an Indian woman and they were planning their wedding. It dawned on me that one reason it didn’t “click” with us is because in my parents’ relationship my mom is the dominant personality. In his parents’ relationship it was his dad - in a BIG way, like very traditional submissive wife. Would never have worked with us. Now he has a wife who is likely to find him progressive compared to how she was raised, and he’ll get to be more in charge like I know he subconsciously wants. At least I hope it works out OK for her. Just glad it wasn’t me.

How is this not every pregnancy? I live in the US and my husband claimed to be so progressive and aside from cooking for me every once in awhile it was pretty much exactly the same.

I work with a lot of Indian women. They are smart and warm but are so ingrained to be like what the picture represents. It hurts to see women disrespect themselves. My Korean boss though is a g, she takes no one's shit! Ladies your emotions and dreams are valid and worthwhile. The love and care you give to others, you should give to yourself as well!!

ngl most men are already like this, not specifically to Indian/South Asian men.. I’ve been asked plenty of times if I wanted to marry them (on first dates or just chatting/texting) and it makes me wanna run for my life. Never give men like this the time of day 🤧
