First of all, the difference in maturity is the most drastic during teen years and according to this article, it's just 2 years.

Girls, she explained, mature faster than boys, and girls' brains are as much as two years ahead during puberty.

People who date in their age range usually are okay with dating someone just 2 years younger/older, although it isn't true for teens.
Development finishes in middle or late 20s, so after this point there isn't much difference.
People with this preference usually care not about just maturity, but about having similar experience and being on a similar stage of life.

If you want someone who really cares about you, date someone your own age. If you don't mind someone who's looking for some traits about you and doesn't care for you personally, date outside your age range.

There are a few exceptions before someone gets mad. But honestly if you want to be really close and genuine with someone, get someone your own age.

BUT Older men can also often come across as creepy, or undesirable because you wonder why he can’t find a woman his own age who wants him. Plus if they’re flaunting their money it shows that’s all they have to offer and they’re essentially selling themselves.

A small gap (up to 8 years or so when you’re in your late 20s/30s) is fine but personally I’d balk at much more.

Older men are less attractive so yes it's shallow but that's because humans are. Same reason we all want someone attractive.

A man in his 30' dating mostly women in their early 20 might/is considered shallow as he puts physical appearance above other traits (character , personality , maturity; all which take GENERALLY more time to develop)

The problem is often denied - lack of "character , personality , maturity" in 30' women.

Problem with women in their 30's isn't their appearance most of the time. Good women usually get hooked in their 20's, and by their 30's are usually either married or in long term relationships.

Women mature faster than men.

Yes but only til ca. end twenties. After then the gap slowly closes. So, no, women in their 30s who date age appropriate are not shallow.

Also: If she dates a guy 2-4 years OLDER that is still older. And thats the range with regards to men developing slower science talks about.

5-10 years is nothing biology, pure sociology.

Yes, people mature at different rates in other parts of their life like their career. Women shouldn't be judging men for maturing later in life like personality or dating-wise.
