I broadly agree but you need to give concrete examples.

For example, if women have a responsibility to pick the best genes, why do they select for socially dysfunctional, highly attractive men with ornamental physical traits rather than high IQ men whose combined brainpower can unlock transcendent technology eventually.

IMO, many of the "gender roles" subs are full of men and women whining about how life is unfair and how the world would be better if the other sex just did what would make THEIR lives better. Instead of thinking "how could I change MY behavior to get what I want out of life?" the thinking is, "AN ENTIRE OTHER GENDER/society needs to change for me to get what I want out of life."

To me, this dynamic seems to be people offloading all responsibility onto another gender or society to MAKE their lives great and relationships gratifying, under the phrase "returning to traditional gender dynamics."

In male communities, I see men complaining that women "aren't feminine enough" and "have unrealistic expectations." Meanwhile, many of these men just can't get a date.

In female communities, women say they want men who not only are providers, but who also do all of the housework and let them "just give their feminine energy in return." This seems to me like the female equivalent of the male trope I just described - women offloading responsibility for life's problems onto the male gender as a whole.

Meanwhile, IMO, many of these people's struggles could be fixed if they decided that what they wanted could just be something they adopted for THEMSELVES - no matter how wild or unusual what you believe is, there's always someone else out there that will agree with you and want that, too. Reddit is proof of that. 😉

It shouldn't be men vs women but it is because when it comes to responsibility, women are generally treated like little children in society overall. They're less responsible for their own actions, and whatever role they take, many responsibilities are shifted away from them.

They get all the rights, entitlements and favors, but their responsibilities have diminished. Men get the full brunt of it. It is considered sexist and misogynistic to point out that there might still be something left for them in that department. That is what feminism has achieved.

Romance is a man's job. Pursuing is a man's job. Even sex is treated as man's job. Paying is a man's job. A woman can't do the cooking because that's traditional gender roles which is bad. If you want her to do anything, how dare you?! (Insert Greta here)

Everyone wants to rail against gender roles, talk about how unfair and oppressive they are.

Women decided that their gender roles sucked; but still want men to perform theirs. When men realized women could walk away from theirs, they thought 'hey, I guess I can too'.

People want to have their cake and eat it too. But they can’t walk around saying that so instead they hide behind “oppression” and cry about outdated gender expectations because that sounds reasonable on the surface.

An apt description of feminism.

I’m both a provider and a nurturer, of course I also want partners that are both. Fully functional people are the only way to go. Gender roles are a way to be half a functional person and expect the other person to compensate by being your ‘other half’. I find it’s easier just to be a fully functional person and date other fully functional people.
