I saw it a while back and can't find it now, maybe the poster deleted it. I remember it saying something like "not having kids is the cheatcode to life/as women" and it had a lot of great comments about being childfree and the benefits etc.
edit: Also in case I can't find the post - I'd love to hear other women's thoughts about this! Do you think not having kids is a cheatcode to life/women? Obviously if you have kids or have wanted them your whole life that's different, but I think for a lot of us it's never something we though about and just assumed we'd do from socialization. Then realizing we didn't actually have to opened up a whole new world of possibilities.

There are a multitude of reasons I have decided to remain childfree. I'd like to preface that I have immense admiration and respect for those that want and have children. These views are entirely my own that I have formed over intense introspection of my own life and experiences, as well as those of people around me.
I don't remember ever having that maternal instinct or urge to have kids ever since I was young. Growing up I always thought it was something a woman is 'supposed to do' after marriage. After I realized it is a choice and that I don't have to if I don't want to, I have actively decided it is not a path for me. I think children are wonderful but I don't see myself having my own in future.
Raising a child is a huge responsibility and a lifestyle change and I know I am not up for the challenge and don't have it in me what it would take to raise a decent human in this society and environment. There are a lot of shitty parents in this world and I don't want to be one of them. I have enough self awareness to realize it is not for me. I get overwhelmed and stressed very easily. My work is also extremely demanding (and rewarding) and something I take pride in and have worked very hard for. It will be extremely difficult to balance it with kids.
Extreme scarcity of HVM. I am happy being single and will never settle for a low quality man just so that I can have a family. If I do decide to have kids, I would want to raise them with equal contribution and support from my partner. I cannot and would not raise them as a single parent. I have seen my mother single handedly raise four kids while my dad used to be 'away at work', and what it did to her and how she never really bounced back after. If there is something I have learned from my parents it is that I don't want to be in a marriage like that or reduced to a position like my mother's.
I personally think the world will be a dire and bleak place not to mention dangerous and pretty much inhabitable in a few decades or so if not sooner, given the political and climatic changes we are already experiencing not to mention several others. It would be unfair to bring a child into this world and expect it to overcome or live with all the challenges and difficulties it had nothing to do with to begin with and still somehow excel and make a good life for itself. I will do what I can to not pass on this burden by not having children. I also don't think I have exceptional genes or anything that I'd like to pass on so as to 'leave behind a legacy' or continue the bloodline (point 1).
