I don't have any ill will towards anyone that still likes to play videogames but I've decided to quit because the amount of added junk that now comes with games just makes them unplayable for me.

15 years ago, I could take my gran turismo CD, put it into my PS2, sit down and just drive and have fun, there were no special rewards, no dlc, no surprise mechanics and best of all, no clients like steam, origin or u play that I had to navigate through to get to my game.

Now if I wanna play Forza Horizon 4, I have to have an internet connection, log into my xbox, wait for the game to load, and possibly wait for a fucking 3 hour update.

And even when I get into the game, everything that makes the game fun is ruined for me.

I can't drive down one road on FH4 without being bugged by 200 different achievement messages, a new race pop up, a new barn find. I can't do one power slide without the game just randomly giving me a multi million dollar supercar through the wheel spin system.

It's no longer about just playing and having fun, and competing simply to have bragging rights, no, it's about the computer figuring out exactly how many hits of dopamine to give you so that you'd keep mindlessly playing.

It numbs you, gives you brain fog and clouds your thinking. It makes you forget that you're in a 200 sq ft apartment and non of what you're seeing is real.

It has become a more mentally calm process to just work hard and buy a Porsche in real life rather than drive one in a game.

And regarding games like cyberpunk, I'm almost 90% certain that the only reason people bought the game is because of the character creation and nudity. It's just pornography now and they don't even hide it.

Most people play games to escape their reality. They don't seek to fix the root problem which is that their reality sucks.
