I see no reason why we can't do that.. I would be all for that. It would only be her trying to screw me over.

So.. if I meet a lawyer for a consult.. that is ok.. yah? But if we do mediation.. then I wouldn't likely use a lawyer? How does mediation end up getting started? Does one of us file for divorce.. and then the next step is mediation.. or we both have to agree to that or what?

But if spouse doesnt want to file for divorce.. e.g. for some reason feels we should continue down the road.. even after 20+ years of anger/fighting/etc.. then I have to file to get the process started, right? If I file.. does that still go to mediation.. or does that now go to lawyers and court?

Interesting on the 1/3 of difference. I hope that is accurate.. because if she can work full time.. she makes as much as me.. hopefully that means I would pay nothing. I would be fine with 50/50 custody.. in fact unless she tries to screw me over.. that is what I would ask for even though my kid wants to live with me and hates my wife more or less. I am in California.. southern.. not sure it matters north vs south or not.

Kid is 16.. marriage 25 years.. but wife is making enough now part time to afford a small apartment.. or if we sell our house.. could put the amount returned (about 100K or so) down on a small home and afford mortgage. Cars are paid off. No CC debt. No school loans. Just house and monthly expenses. But I make about 2x more than her as I work full time, she works part time.
