We've been saying this forever on r/malementalhealth.

It's actually pretty hateful and condescending to imply that men's issues are caused by some kind of defect in masculinity.

A lot of men are actually turned off from seeking help because they see this narrative and don't want anything to do with it.

A military veteran on r/leftwingmaleadvocates even talked about how one of his therapists was a feminist and said his problems were caused by toxic masculinity and the patriarchy.

He almost killed himself afterwards.

Stories like that are all over the place.

Even if it were true that men are "stubborn" about their mental health or going to therapy (which I don't think is the case), the solution would be to figure out how to better appeal to men so they want to come. Not to blame them because they aren't going.

So is there a "mental health care" gap? How long does it take a man to access mental health treatment compared to a woman? What are the comparable rates of failure to obtain treatment? Based in the UK where access is organised through GPs etc.

Blaming men’s problems on men ‘not talking about their feelings’ is such a weak cop-out.

It’s an excuse that allows people not to tackle any of the real problems that men face. Instead, they just blame it on some vague issue that’s not measurable, provable or curable. (Oh and it also suggests that men only have themselves to blame)

I would give a great deal more credence to a wider study.

That means we lose twice as many Veterans PER DAY as the totality of her "study".

I’m a social worker. I worked in an emergency department for two years. Not once did I get a request to talk male victims of DV. Not even to offer the a referral to a counseling service. Not once did I get a request to speak with any male who had broken his hand after punching something out of anger. This is contrast to constant requests to speak with women and girls who cut and self-harmed. And also in the contrast to getting requests to offer counseling services to female perpetrators of DV. During my last month on the job I actually was told by a nurse to provide trauma triage counseling to a woman who, get this, had attacked her male partner and was literally thrown out of his house.

I asked my female boss about all this. And three months later I was told the organization is looking into it.

I stopped seeing a therapist because the last time I did after two months of therapy they decided they didn't accept my insurance after telling me they did and I owed them thousands of dollars.

After a while it's like yeah, I get why all the Dad's of the world are such drunks. It's cheap therapy.

There are the same amount or even more men dying from prostate cancer than women from breast cancer but only women get free info and free testing and sometimes even free treatment depending where you live.

Imho while we unequally encourage girls by "I code like a girl" or "Scientista" campaigns.

Demotivated boys who feel ashamed that they are boys and have no pride in identity of gender.(other than the gun loving people who associate being uneducated with masculinity sadly)

These demotivated boys fail and then have mental health issues as result of the failures in life and thus end up becoming miscreants like incels.
