For a brief period I labelled myself as feminist, but only out of fear.

I have a much older sister who is a borderline man-hater under the guise of feminism. I suffer from anxiety, in part, due to how badly she treats me, especially when I was a little kid.

That lack of self-worth, coupled with my naivety, resulted in me falling into the trap of saying I was a feminist.

Now that I am older, I've realised how seriously flawed and destructive it is in modern life.

I was raised by a single mum who constantly told me how bad men were and that I needed to look after my sister.

I was raised to be aware of female issues so considered myself a feminist, it took living as a man to become aware of male issues and realise feminism is not the solution to eithers problems.

I was very much of the ‘I hate men/fathers’ school, thought society would be fixed by limiting masculinity, that women were an oppressed class, and that all violence was men’s fault. And then I saw the Toronto men’s rights protest and I woke up big time.

Very influenced by feminism throughout childhood and teens. Though never actually identified as one but did buy in to the notion: A woman without a man is like fish without a bicycle. Quite some self esteem issues from that.

I read somewhere that the phrase is a satirical reply to a equally offensive phrase from men. That would have made it more reasonable.

Decoupled from it’s origins it seems quite misandric.

So the gender issue never appealed to me in the sense that I really thought it was overrated but later I found a few feminists friends etc and was thinking about it , so I did my research about feminism and it turned out to be the complete opposite of what it is marketed. In short have never been a feminist . Consider myself am egalitarian.

If Feminism was in it's early days where it advocated for Women's voting rights then I feel like I would've joined it (I'm male).

Now I feel like Feminism should've ended a long time ago due to obvious reasons, but it hasn't it's still around and as a result I joined this Subreddit. I hear men always gets more than the short end of the stick all the time.

You could be a kind and caring Father who's never touched a bottle of alcohol your entire life, but the courts can and will ultimately decide to give your child to your abusive, drug-addicted Ex-Wife. That's the shit that made me join this subreddit in the first place and I hope that a change can come and we can ultimately make a difference and put an end to Sexism in society.

I wouldn't call myself a feminist. I would call myself a woman who just wants fair treatment for both sides. It's not black and white either. Right now I'm struggling with a friend who is all for men's rights, which is great and I'm supportive. But then he disparages women by making posts or saying things that denigrate women. Calling them whores, etc.

Plus he sent a random dick pic recently to say this is how men feel when they get unasked for pics. I didnt send or ask for one! That's when my more feminist (if you want to call it that) comes out. Because I get more protective of myself and defensive.

I thought feminism was about equality in my formative years. Obviously a dispelled notion at this point. If it ever was about equality, that must have been long before my time. My earliest memory of gender disparity, was how my primary school textbooks back in the 80s always portrayed the "dad" or the male illustration as a buffon, or a sit-com stereotype of lazy couch-potato. I remember thinking it was strange that all men and boys always where the butt of the joke. Very innocent ofc, but this paints a picture about how early you are taught to think of your gender as an useless appandage to society, barely serving a function besides being a helpless ignoramus.

Arguing for equality these days, I spend most of my time criticising feminism for actively working against social reform helping both genders, or against self-proclaimed feminists not always realizing they are being misandric. Usually, they are oblivious to their bigotry.

In a sense, there's real legit comparison between the brainwashing tool of religion, and the ideology of feminism. Its worrisome how this gender-supremacist worldview has gained so much mainstream traction.

I've even noticed similarities in their arguments. Much like how some religious people do not understand how you can have morals without their beliefs, some feminists seems to think arguing for men's rights, or mens right to having and sharing an opinion publically, doesn't make you inherently evil. (or the embodiment of their ire)

I was never a feminist. I always believed that both genders should have equal rights, I know there needs to be more people fighting for men's rights. The disgusting dismission of men's issues, ive found it in person. An ex-friend of mine in person to my face told me the wage gap is real and wouldn't listen to me when I told her it wasn't.

i have never been a feminist because i was never exposed to "the major problems women have to deal with" or its possible that japan doesnt really have feminists as even the little sexism against them that still happens here is very strongly dealt with and japan is very close to near perfect equality ( i can discuss more about this because most just dont know the truth about it)

when i somewhat recently started learning about feminism (in the way it actually is not how most people think it is) i immeditially rejected it because i had nothing but the facts straight away

i think most feminists know that feminism is bad but refuse to change minds because its what theyre used to and as we all know humans dont like change

I was a feminist for about a year or 2, then when I was about 18 or 19,

I realized the pieces didn't fit together.

I told other men but they were all manginas who retorted: you hate women.

No internet Men's group in the 1980s. You guys are lucky now.

Uhh, no. I was always very cynical. I can see a scam from a mile away. Even as a young teen, they interacted as though they understood reality, they were omnipotent and omniscient, I was insolent.

Whenever someone preaches dogmatism you need to start asking questions. That's the first thing I'm going to teach my children. Question everything... A skeptical mind is the sharpest weapon

I mean, in reality, they probably aren't actually feminists. There's so many people who call themselves "feminists", but spit so much misandry, or misogyny. It's unfortunate. It's just stupid people who don't understand, or don't do their research. Really anyone who sees it as a battle of men vs women, or women vs men, isn't a feminist. Feminism is truly about unity, no matter how some idiot misinterprets it.

I've had a lot of experiences like that myself, and was against feminism for a bit, but I realized after reading some modern, and some OG feminism books and essays, that those people weren't feminists. Most of them were benevolent sexists at best.

In reality, anyone who believes in, or fights for gender equality, without bias, is a feminist.

I am proudly a feminist. All I want is social and political equality for men and women and everything beyond.

No one truly represents the idea of feminism. It's a simple idea that, no matter how often stupid people misuse it, or mislabel it, can't be changed.

Don't let idiots ruin the idea, and the hope, of equality for you.

femenism, in theory is the advocation of the equality of the sexes. irrespective of what ever crazies do or say, feminism is what we all want.
