i went out with my boyfriend to buy a couch for his apartment and as we were unloading it from his car, a family walked by to go to a neighbor’s house. the man asks him “you need a hand with that, bro?” i had just opened the garage and was walking over so i was like “i got it.” he looks at me and goes “oh nahh SHE’S gonna help you? come on man, let me help.” all i know is i saw red, i’m pretty sure i said “are you fucking kidding me? i am perfectly capable, goodbye” and shoved my hand in his face in front of his family. the fucking audacity. i put on a tough front but it’s really painful when some stranger walks by, takes one look at you and deems you incapable, for the sole fact that you aren’t a man. they believe themselves chivalrous, on the contrary, for so kindly offering their strength and manliness even when it puts someone else down.
