This is a feel-good measure that probably won't solve anything. Rape isn't necessarily a crime motivated by sexual desire, it's more power and control. Chemical castration just prevents them from engaging in sexual activity, it does nothing about the underlying psychological problems. They can still use viagra, or assault with objects.

Rapists rape because they're rapists, not necessarily because they're horny.

This will be heavily exploited by false accusers to take revenge. Just accuse your ex of rape where he can't prove his innocence. He will be found guilty and castrated. Annual police report will rise, not go down.

Without testosterone you can't cope up with depression which will increase further. Accused will end up committing suicide.

As someone said, if they do the same to women convicted of the same, Then...more okay with it overall? I think both would be barbaric as fuck, especially for someone who hasn't even reached 20 years old, but at least there would be some balance.

But in the case of anyone wrongly convicted of these crimes, I would expect to see the suicide rate and/or repeat offender rate increase, rather than decrease. To be honest, in many ways a death sentence would be kinder, and I'm not okay with that either unless you're a psycho terrorist/mass murderer who is totally irredeemable.

Hopefully that will make people more careful about asking for consent but tbh most rape either goes unreported or without consequences so who knows how effective this will be. And of course this means nothing for female rapist but I guess any action to deter rape is still progress.
