Just read the BBC article on this story. Her and her family are basically blaming everyone but her. They say the police were corrupt, the judge was incompetent and the authorities didn’t give her enough support. At no point has a thought been given to the 12 men who’s lives would have been destroyed if she had not retracted her claim.

I know this will be unpopular here, but she is claiming the police coerced her into retracting her statement. So I'm not sure what to believe. However, I do think it's possible that since she is one person, they are 12 (and let's not kid ourselves, the world and media is very pro-Israel), that the system would rather she retract than spark a diplomatic row.
