No. You're not "doomed," especially if you're self aware. My favorite book recommendation for women in this situation is Lori Gottlieb's Marry Him, the Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough. It talks a lot about what options are actually available to you.

Realize that men are replaceable and that there are an abundance of men who you can enjoy spending time with. Once you realize this, as I have, you'll never be alpha widowed because you won't ever set any one man as the be all end all.

I love my boyfriend and we've been together 2 years. I'd be sad if we broke up, but we'd both move on and I'd wish him to have a great future. I know I would only be alone if I chose it. I'm too busy with hobbies to mourn a relationship.

I am lucky to have never been in this situation myself. All I can say though is move on. I have fallen for men who didn't want much to do with me and because there was nothing serious there I moved on fast and got over it within a few weeks. I guess if it was a serious relationship especially a marriage or where children are involved it could be very hard to get over. My DH certainly isn't an alpha but he has a very unique personality and hes the only man I have ever fully clicked with. If anything happened to him I would be so sad I would not see any other man again.

I think Alpha Widow is not a state of being but of attitude and opinion. One can DECIDE to not become an Alpha Widow.
