I figured that a woman would be more relatable and sympathetic to female specific abuse.

Male abuse has been such an under-reported and under-recognised issue for so long and you are frustrated that some people have recently started recognising this for the injustice that it is? Let me tell you something. Half of all domestic violence victims are men (yes, you read that right), and yet the most commonly state-mandated model of intervention is the Duluth Model, which is a feminist-based model that portrays men as perpetrators and women as victims of men as part of its "patriarchal violence" model of domestic violence.

In line with this misguided and biased view of domestic violence, there is a comparatively insignificant amount of services and help provided to male victims - a request for the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women to provide sex-specific utilisation data for several grant programs found that only 9.7% of persons receiving help were male victims, with the remaining 90.3% being female victims.

And there are many many many qualitative studies of male helpseekers who reveal that they are turned away, doubted, ridiculed by the formal systems in place that are supposed to prevent DV. Across multiple studies a huge amount of male victims reported being referred to batterers' programs when they called domestic violence hotlines, or arrested by the police who made the false presumption that the man was the primary aggressor.

I'm sorry, but should we NOT be talking about male victims? When male victims of domestic violence are ignored, sidelined, or even victimised by the system?

She must have conveniently forgotten that when a man is slapped by a woman, it just hurts his feelings and stings a bit. She must also have forgotten that when a woman is slapped by a man, it always causes noticeable swelling and bruises, and very often escalates to her death!

Go tell that to Alex Skeel, whose girlfriend denied him food, beat him with glass bottles and hammers, slashed him with knives, and poured scalding water all over him. It got to the point where doctors told him he was 10 days from death because of all the weight he'd lost and the injuries he'd sustained.

I'm glad to be in a space where women come first and don't have to be mommy martyr for everyone else.

Let me break it to you: Women already come first. Society at large is far more concerned with women's wellbeing and safety than that of men. There are an innumerable amount of studies showing that we feel more empathy for women than for men, and are more accepting of male suffering.

Women are and have always been the most protected class in society. Yes, even in the so-called Male-Dominated Patriarchal System of the past, women were protected. Protected from fighting in war. Protected from domestic violence. Protected from incurring debt. Protected from the consequences of their own crimes.

I'm legitimately so tired of feminists pretending that putting women first even at the expense of men is such a fucking novel idea. It isn't. It has never been novel or radical. And you feminists are not doing anything new whatsoever by "prioritising the interests and experiences of women first", because we have ALWAYS done that.

This kind of stuff really bothers me A LOT.

In this example, there is a book with presumably 20+ chapters (no idea just guessing), ONE chapter is devoted to male victims and this translates into "male abuse is all anyone wants to talk about".

I wish this type of post was rare but I have seen it quite often on FB, you try and talk about male victims of almost anything and it's always "why must we always talk about men".

I'm so damn tired of this. Abusive behavior is a human problem not a gender problem. Intimate partner abuse is only a slice of the human abusiveness pie. The more they tribalize it, the more it insures nothing will ever be done. It seems that passive aggression is now the dominant form of agresion in our culture. Everybody covets victimhood status, it makes you a more powerful tribal warrior because you are shielded from criticism. Hating all men because one of them hit you is as dumb as hating all dogs because one of them bit you. Bigotry is hyper negative generalization of a group of people. If you're going to be a bigot, why not go for the big game and just go ahead and hate half the human population?
