I love how the assumption is that the women are also still doing most of the housework, etc. Don't get me wrong, they may very well be doing so, but I just love how they will add that sans proof, or any mention of what the man's work hours are/ what else he might be doing to support the household, and so on so forth. And don't forget that old chestnut: emotional labor. That one really kills me. Supporting your S.O. with understanding and sympathy is the worst. \s

Alimony will be erased when it no longer benefits women.

As the percentage of women paying it rises, the feminists will start to cry foul - we all know the familiar phrases and buzz words that will be used - increasingly humorous and insulting to the very people oppressed by it for past decades.

Given enough feminist support, it may even be erased as a law altogether, but only because of the feminists, for the feminists. The fact that it may well help literally thousands of men will be ignored.

But I doubt the state will so easily give up a nice little earner for the women, so we might as well enjoy the small victories while we can.

Oh and never get married fellas. Not even once.

Women couldn’t work or own property—and often couldn’t ask for a divorce themselves—so if a man wanted to leave them, they had to be left with a way to support themselves. Thus was born the idea of alimony.

Short of being handicapped, nothing prevented women working. There is no banning of married women working, and never has been.

And, as alimony stands now, it’s about financial need; the fair thing to do is treat men in this situation the same way women would want to be treated. But that doesn't mean it's an easy pill to swallow.

She's just admitting that she's completely sexist on this issue, and feels like women are owed money, men aren't.

By then, Andrea had been to Pettus’s support group a few times and had heard horror stories. “Just don’t wind up in court,” one high-achieving woman warned. She had, and had found herself “painted as the Wicked Witch of the East” by her husband’s lawyer—whom, to add insult to injury, she was paying for. She should have hired him for herself, she thought bitterly as the judge awarded her husband—whose looting of their joint accounts was the reason for the breakup of their marriage—a large cash settlement.

This reads exactly gender-flipped.

I know 3 different guys in their early/mid 50’s who recently got divorced. They pay alimony up the a** to wives who do not work or do anything while they grind away every day. All three have had some form of depression/extreme anxiety and all have had such bad stress that the only thing they can do to cope is drink and smoke their lives away. It’s really terrible. I don’t believe marriage should be a part of the court. It is a religious institution so why should it be?
