I’m so torn on this issue. I WANT it to be okay to knock men. Stereotyping men has given us some of the greatest comedy in my lifetime. Characters like Al Bundy, Homer Simpson, and most of the greatest sitcoms revolve around a stereotyped male character, and that’s okay! They are hilarious! The problem is, if we want to make fun of men like this, we should also be able to make fun of women the same way. It is a double standard to continuously stereotype men as dumb oafs but not be able to stereotype women too. I wish we could all just stereotype once in a while to get some good laughs, because let’s face it that type of world is more laid back, fun, and there is some truth to the stereotypes. But negatively stereotyping men while disallowing stereotypes of women is a double standard. If we allowed stereotypes of both genders then I hope people would understand that it’s all in good fun and to take things with a grain of salt. But it’s a two way street and if women don’t want to play ball then we can’t either because the underlying assumption that it’s in good fun gets lost in translation.

The generalized and acceptable practice of hate towards SWM is bizarre. I sometime could literally see people preparing to object to things I say in group discussions at my old job. Regardless of what the topic was.

I could give a complement, “This taco salad you made is delicious Jenny”.

“Oh, you like it? That’s nice. Well I am sure You know a better recipe..., anyways I really don’t even like this I don’t know why I made it”.

Like she hates her own recipes because I complemented it. What?!
