The problem with this term is this:

When men are pressured by social norms to do something that harms themselves or others, it's called toxic masculinity.

When women are pressured by social norms to do something that harms themselves or others, it's called misogyny or patriarchal oppression.

So, when bad things happen to women, it's the men's fault.

When bad things happen to men, it's the men's fault.

Like Karen Straughan once said: "We don't hate men; we simply named everything bad after them."

That's fine, but as a society we should talk about toxic femininity a bit more in the interests of equality, imo.

Why should men get to enjoy all the attention? Women deserve some.

Please stop using the term 'toxic masculinity'.

Lots of people don't like the term 'toxic masculinity' and yet people still choose to use the term. We have discarded terms like 'retard' because of the negative connotations, so why continue to use 'toxic masculinity'?

When I hear the word masculinity spoken or written by feminists, without the toxic preface, I'll give your argument some slack. Until then, no, toxic masculinity is just another hateful term used by feminists to describe all masculinity.

There is nothing toxic about your masculinity. You are only harmful if you harm.

There is nothing dirty about your foreskin. Your genitals are only dirty if you don't clean them.

There is nothing wrong with your libido. You are only a sex predator if you commit sex crimes.

Masculinity is not toxic. Its just a way to demoralize males and shame them.
May as well say 1) being obese is toxic fatness 2) being a feminist is toxic bitchiness 3) being a child is toxic immaturity 4) being gay is toxic homosexuality And so on.

Its only considered toxic to try to shame males

We don't define a trait present in a group of people by the characteristics of their worst members.

Its the same way we don't define women/femininity bitchy or catty or vindictive and expect a descent conversation.

Both males and females have bad aspects collectively or as an average. Trying to start a conversation by demonizing using a broad brush will obviously bring backlash.

Masculinity is subjective and the group screaming about "toxic masculinity" are trying to control what individuals feel comfortable about.

Some people enjoy being masculine some don't and thats for them to choose.

Am still waiting for someone to show examples of bad behaviour forced upon all men that is only male bound and is supported by a large percentage of the male population.

Logically speaking, you're exactly correct. But even if there is such a thing as "toxic masculinity," the concept is prevalent in our culture already, with very little commentary on "toxic feminimity." One concept has the support of the media, the government, and multiple political interest groups, the other is virtually nonexistent in modern Western culture and actively suppressed by some. We as MRAs should be pushing the idea that toxic behavior has no gender, and that certain encouraged behaviors for both genders can be toxic.

Toxic masculinity, or pathological masculinity, is behavior in which a boy harasses or possibly attacks others he sees as being weaker or inferior. This is due to his insecurities, and can be a signal that he is not adjusting well, likely due to a poor environment. This behavior is seen in male bullies, who tend to be confrontational and direct.

This is something that only tends to be experienced by men who are distressed and not mature or insightful enough to handle their situation (by seeking help). However, it is more likely he simply doesn’t see himself being able to get help, or is too afraid to express that vulnerability.

This behavior isn’t seen in girls (typically), but that is because it manifests differently.

Toxic femininity, or pathological femininity, is essentially the same, but female bullies are much more insidious. They often use manipulative tactics against their victims or use other people to target their victim.

From my understanding: toxic masculinity relies on reticence from the male victim; toxic femininity relies on the two-faced attitude of the bully herself, which is why female bullies are probably less likely to get in trouble, particularly when picking on a boy.

A bit off topic, but I think someone made the claim that toxic masculinity causes school shootings. Really, it’s more due to the factor of male reticence (boys are less likely to admit vulnerability, and this tends to be helpful with this next part) and high risk behavior (boys are more likely to take violent methods when considering suicide, especially when they can more easily disregard their own feelings at times for the sake of others), which are typically intended for the benefit of themselves and the people they wish to protect rather than as a hinderance. Besides, I’d argue it’s the attitude schools take towards boys, treating them as “defective girls,” especially when they are misdiagnosed with ADHD and put on drugs they don’t need (they just need to work their energy off).

The concept of pathological femininity tends to be avoided, but I think most people know it exists even if they don’t know the term.

Do you see the problem? Address the masculinity part, address the lack of requisite description for femininity/women
