Everyone uses that case as an example every time that case about the disabled white kid is brought up. And then the Brock Turner thing. But statistically, which person is more likely to get off easy if they abduct a member of another race and film themselves tortuting them while using racial slurs? A white person or a black person? FFS there had to be a whole song and dance before anyone dared to qualify that one as a hate crime.

In my European country, black, arab, and turkish rapists have had their lawyers use their vision of white women as "whores" as a defense (to explain the state of mind of their clients). I'm not talking about crime numbers you iliterate, I'm talking about the social acceptance that someone's prejudices about white women would be considered a valid and accepted defense in court.

Also being from western Europe, I can tell you that it wouldn't be the first time a country reports a "decrease" in crime just because the police doesn't have the means to prosecute most of them (so they end up not even taking complaints about things considered beneath notice).

I'm from France, and in the last decade one government wanted better numbers, so they tasked police stations with decreasing crime (mostly through giving them specific goals and quotas). There was a recorded decrease, but mostly because the police then refused to take official complaints about things that could be swept under the rug (like non violent rapes, smaller break ins, petty thefts...). So I'm always wary of countries suddenly reporting a statistically significant decrease in crime that isn't preceded with profound efforts at prevention or deterrence (like hiring a lot more cops, or implementing social programs to give more opportunities to social groups that would usually turn to crime).

The third one, who was also a minor at the time is the only one you know the outcome of.

But the most unexpected and hotly contested part of the sentencing hearing on Friday was a May 2016 audio tape of the mentally disabled young man saying his parents pressured him into testifying, for the sake of the $10 million civil suit, and that he lied under oath when he made his allegations.

Lethal injection is not like putting an animal to sleep, if that's how you're picturing it. It is a lot more disturbing than shooting a man, which is instant, or at least very fast, and does not cause the inmate to suffer.

From Amnesty International: "Lethal injection can cause excruciating pain. From an online publication called The Morning Call: "Clay Lockett writhed and screamed in pain as his veins collapsed during his lethal injection [...] He took 42 minutes to die. When someone kidnaps and tortures someone, that's worse than murder. You still haven't posed any actual point other than your own opposing opinion stating that my opinion is wrong and claim you have proof of it never working anywhere. So, going back on topic, when such people have been dealt with via capital punishment they don't have any way to do it again. Literally, via the laws of physics and reality, the problem is solved and it works. There's no way they can do that again and it's a deterrent to other people who may think about doing the same. You claim my opinion is a knee jerk reaction and I disagree, with this being the logic behind the opinion. Do you have any logic behind your opinion? Or, is it just based on the general idea that killing these criminals for their crimes here doesn't fit into your moral template?
