I personally feel like you were being rational in every aspect other than thinking you could change the minds of people on the internet who are already at such odds with your thinking. Please don't hear me thinking you did something wrong. I would've been equally frustrated had I been you. I just think if they're beginning with the idea that random approaches are sexual harassment, you have more work cut out for you than can be tackled in Reddit comments

I started a reply detailing a few friends and connections I've met outside of bars, but then thought it wasn't really a fight I wanted to enter into there.

Most importantly, I'm worried about what our society will look like if talking to strangers is seen as creepy, people don't answer the door, and social media activity is seen as more important than community involvement. I fear we'll have a "community" of people, all staying in their homes and safe spaces with "friends" mostly on social media, with no ability to truly connect, little face-to-face emotional intelligence, fearful of one another, and reliant solely on technology or paid services should they need aid. Then we'll wonder why obesity and depression are rampant.

The laws are skewed against men. This is intentional. Second Wave Feminists made it very clear that their goal was to destroy western civilization by destroying marriage, and to destroy marriage they had to destroy men. It's in their books, if you can hold your bile long enough to read them. In the sixties and seventies, we didn't believe they could do it, but by the eighties they were succeeding. Now the laws are on the cusp of making masculinity illegal, because it's "toxic." This will not change until women rebel, or our current civilization collapses to the point where feminism can no longer be sustained. To promote the first, as a general rule men have to ignore women. To survive the second, begin learning about the next mini ice age, which has already started.

One easy way to know if it is or isn't harassment is, how would this woman feel if another woman approached her in the same way or with the same interests. If a woman would be fine with another woman approaching her in public, and she has a very different disposition towards men, than the problem is not the men who approach her but rather her disposition towards men. It's a double-standard that stems from sexism and prejudice.

The act of harassment is gender neutral, not gender specific. If women feel entitled to hate on men, even as they expect men to approach women first in virtually all cases, they are being incredibly conceited and malevolent. Fact is, people approach people in public. This is a fact of life, and it has been that way long before societies were even a thing. Someone trying to approach you with romantic or sexual motives is not sexually harassing you, he's being a human being. One person approaching another is pretty much every relationship starts. Trying to vilify men for basic adult human interaction is pretty fucked up.

Also, trying to restrict social interaction between men and women to bars is very weird and unnatural. Where you interact with people doesn't matter. People meet outside of bars every day and humans have been pairing and fucking longer than bars have been around. It's ridiculous. I have never once taken the bus with the mentality of "i am taking the bus, therefore you better not approach me or you are sexually harassing me". That is such a weird and unhealthy mentality to have about people and life in general.

And, if someone is just going to ignore people addressing them, that is entirely their right but that is also something that is completely rude, disrespectful and derogatory. I have no clue why people in that thread are trying to pass that off as normal or a totally just way to react to people. They wouldn't want people reacting that way to them, so why would they see it any differently when the shoe is on the other foot?

Men are allowed to hit on women. Women should learn how to handle this. If they are not interested, they should learn how to say "I'm not interested. And men, if a woman says she is not interested they should then fuck off and leave her alone.

As far as I can tell, women are split on the subject of men approaching. Many are ok with it, and many think of it as assault/harrassment. That, of course, makes men damned if we do, and damned if we don't...but less damned if we don't.

Well, this has to lead to fewer children. With over 7 & 1/2 BILLION of us, that's not such a bad thing. Me, I figure if I stay away from women I don't know, I won't get into too much trouble.
