I think we should discuss this issue in terms of rights: the right to consent to having sex (which both genders have) and the right to consent to becoming a parent, which is granted to women via legally approved options like abortion, adoption and safe harbour (?) abandonment of an unwanted child, but that same right is explicitly denied to men.

By framing it in terms of the right to consent to becoming a parent, we can clearly point out that this right is explicitly denied to men.

So, yes, there is a legal inequality right now where consent to sex does not equal consent to parenthood... For women only.

To make this equal, I propose that every time a woman has an abortion, she is assigned an orphaned child from a third world country to raise as her own. Then she gets to keep her bodily autonomy, but she doesn't get out of parenthood... Just like men!

Bam! Equality! Consent to sex means consent to parenthood for both men and women!

I’m pro choice but I think that if abortion is legal then the mother should have all the financial burden if she decides to keep the child. I don’t think men should be absolved of their duties but I don’t think the government should be involved. If we give women complete control of the outcome of pregnancy then she should bear all financial responsibility after the fact if the father doesn’t want it.

If the father wants to keep it, and the mother doesn't, does she still have to carry the baby to term or can the father sue everyone involved for wrongful death?
