I'm a 40 year old male and I recently proposed to my 39 year old fiancee, we've been together for 3 years, living together for 2. Having been through a divorce where there was no prenup, I want to get a prenup this time and my fiancee is ok with the idea.

Neither of us has any desire to have kids, we're quite content with our dog and two cats.

My fiancee works in healthcare, I work in tech. She works incredibly hard (harder than I do!), but my hourly rate is about 6X what her's is, and I also have significant ownership in a few promising startups so I have the possibility of a big upside if one or more of those pans out.

My initial thinking was to avoid getting married, and she was ok with this, but I realized that she spent a lot of time worrying about her financial future, and so I thought if getting married, with a fair prenup, then I could provide her with a degree of financial stability while avoiding an unfair outcome should our marriage not work out.

Because I want to provide some kind of stability for her, really a form of risk pooling I guess, I don't just want to have the "default" prenup of "what's yours is yours, what's mine is mine".

I'm curious if any of you guys (or girls) have obtained prenups and what kind of structures you went with. Even just the basic principles you used as a starting point would be a big help as I think through this.

note: I realize I should talk to a lawyer about this and I will, but I would like to have some understanding of the various options before I start paying someone $400/hr to explain them to me :)
