I've seen multiple articles lately pushing for rules about these 'sex bots'; women buy sex toys too but these articles don't seem to be very concerned about the "rights" of vibrators. - We are still quite a ways from having sentient robots; I suspect the poorly hidden agenda is that they are opposed to men having options that don't give women power. - if more men turn to sex bots for sexual gratification these women fear that they will have less ability to exploit men for their financial gratification. I think this also has a lot to do with their opposition to prostitution, strip clubs, pornography and their efforts to raise the age of consent to ridiculously high levels. Shrinking the options for men increases their power.

Yep, bestiality is illegal, because dumb beasts can't consent. However, we kill dumb beasts all the time, to eat them, and I'm pretty sure they don't consent to that either. So, there is something wrong with the consent argument. The real situation, which this robot stuff has highlighted, is that women are afraid of the sexual competition from cows.

A recent report, called ‘Our Sexual Future with Robots’ by the Foundation for Responsible Robotics, looked at a variety of issues the advancement sex robots will bring – one of which was the possibility of these sex robots being raped, or being programmed to simulate disturbing rape fantasies.

LOL. The leaders in morals reach for their usual lies. This new perspective just highlights their methods.

The report stated: “On the one hand, if a sex robot is designed to resist sexual advances such that their use constitutes a simulated act of rape, then building them puts the user in relationship with the act of raping a woman.

OK then, design them not to resist sexual advances. You could even make an Affirmative Consent model.

On the other hand, building a robot that is passive or elicits sex is ethically problematic for what it communicates to the broader public about women’s sexuality.”

Predictable. Everything is rape, right? But the AC model consents all the time, so errr...

This reminds me of those science fiction stories where the robots get a mind of their own and revolt. Nope; only if they are designed that way. It ruins the story. These robot moralists should concern themselves with the actual danger of autonomous military machines, which are being designed, right now, to kill.

To me it seems very dubious that these gender studies academics are pushing for the human rights of computer algorithms.

Nullify the sexual economy, people start getting into relationships on a basis of serious romance. Sounds like a win-win when men are dealing with women who use them as utilities and women are dealing with men who use them as...sex robots. Give those assholes a sex robot, you won't be treated as a sex robot.

"Men will stop competing for high quality mates"? Yeah right. The same people who watch porn and who aren't very successfully are going to the be the same people who delight on sex robots.

The status quo will continue. I don't expect a massive change in society. In fact the impact is probably going to be even less than porn because porn is cheaper (free) than something I expect to cost the same as a sports car for decades
