Before Otto's death, I really had no idea how much liberals hated him for no other reason than his race and gender.

This kid (now dead because he was drugged so much he became brain dead) was given 15 years for allegedly tearing down a propaganda poster and some liberal outlets and mouthpieces openly celebrated his jailing. And their entire reason for hating him is this woman's same reason. He's a "rich, white, male" (you can take the word 'rich' out, they hate him because he's a white male).

I don't know how any self-respecting white male could vote for the current Democratic party. 20+ years ago I could understand why, but the SJW left is fanatical and increasing in number. They, at the very least, represent a very strong minority in the liberal party.

Dettwyler argues that while in North Korea, Warmbier had acted like a “spoiled, naive, arrogant U.S. college student who never had to face the consequences of his actions,” later describing him as having the “typical mindset of a lot of the young, white, rich, clueless males” she teaches.

So there are two things here I've noticed, first, she's clearly describing herself. Like so many of her ilk she has absolutely no self-awareness, the arrogance and ignorance of university students generally is a problem because they really do seem to live in bubbles like this woman. Secondly, if she's the one teaching these people, then isn't it her fucking fault they act like this?

She of course I'm sure will pretend it's their innate 'toxic masculinity' that's causing them to behave like this in other countries but the fact she's such an arrogant halfwit and given her attitude will likely be doing nothing to intellectually challenge her students she will be the one responsible for pumping out the very students she complains about on a regular basis.

Fuck her, bad enough that she attacks a guy who ended up dying in the hands of a dictatorship over a fucking propaganda sign but she's using it as an excuse to attack her male students as well.

I really would encourage any university students to thoroughly boycott these types of morons in response to this sort of behaviour. You are all adults now, remember that, they can't boot you out because you're not willing to listen to their anti-male, anti-white and anti-capitalist propaganda. Just don't show up to these sorts of shit shows, go off and party for an hour or so then go to some real lessons to learn something useful and come back feeling refreshed rather than suicidal.

She literally knows nothing about this guy except that he went to North Korea and took a sign, and now all of a sudden that must mean he's a rapist who does illegal drugs and threatens violence against people and therefore deserved to die

“It’s just tough for me to have much sympathy for this guy and his crocodile tears,” said former Comedy Central host Larry Wilmore amid what was billed as a comedic monologue on his now-cancelled show in March 2016. He noted that, according to reporting, Warmbier had committed the “international crime” of poster stealing as part of an initiation into his UVA fraternity. “You’ve got to read the fine print on your American frat bro warranty,” Wilmore noted mockingly. “It says, ‘Frat Bro Privilege not valid in totalitarian dystopias.’”

University of Virginia’s fraternity system is the source of much progressive angst. That angst motivated the serial fabulist Sabrina Rubin Erdely to publish a fictional account of a gang rape initiation system at the frat—a piece that subsequently cost her former publication, Rolling Stone, $1.65 million in damages. “Privilege” is how social-justice advocates describe those who they think should be found guilty under a Rawlsian ideal of distributive justice. So what made Warmbier so deserving of his captivity and mistreatment at the hands of a famously brutal Stalinist regime? Huffington Post blogger La Sha was more direct than Wilmore in March 2016: his heritage. Specifically, his “white male privilege.”

This horrifying zest to attack this young adult, now just another victim of a totalitarian and criminal state, has exposed social justice for what it is: the precise opposite of objective justice. There is no theory of justice, no school of thought that would justify the treatment to which Warmbier was subjected. There was nothing just about his ordeal. Those who would excuse the regime’s conduct, even going so far as to adopt its language (the grave “international crime” of poster theft) have abdicated all moral authority. And for what? The base pleasure of pleasing a mob that lusts for the blood of those with certain characteristics adopted at birth—characteristics they happen to resent. That’s not justice. It’s prejudice.

But the author, Ms Sha, is someone who wants us to believe that being imprisoned in North Korea and sentenced to 15 years in a hard labour camp, for stealing a poster, then suffering extensive and mysterious brain injuries and being left in a persistent vegetative state… is not unlike being a middle-class black journalist who writes for the Huffington Post.

As noted earlier, Ms Sha denounces the nefarious, all-explaining “privilege” of people paler than herself, and does so in terms that suggest a deeply obnoxious personality. The irony being that unpleasant racial attitudes are more likely to be excused and actively indulged – say, with articles in fashionable publications – if the person airing them is, for instance, a black woman with leftist views.

I think a factor in things like this is that it’s difficult to look distinctive and contrarian, and therefore “woke,” if you react as many others will. This matters, quite a lot, if you’re a status-seeking ‘progressive’. And so you have to perform some quite involved contortions and arrive at unconvincing conclusions, regardless of evidence or common decency. (What comes to mind, oddly enough, is a scene from Downton Abbey, in which Violet reminds Mary that contrived callousness can be just as vulgar and unbecoming as theatrical sentiment.)

Perhaps the final kick in Warmbier's corpse courtesy of HuffPo and this 'La Sha' (if ever a name conjured up such a wealth of negative preconceptions so deservedly) character comes from the apparent fact that her original rant defiantly remains on the site.

Worse though is that they've allegedly 'tinkered' with it since his death in an optimistic attempt to portray 'La Sha' as slightly less sadistic than before.....yet crucially haven't acknowledged said revisions. This of course gives the false impression to the unwary that the current article is in fact the original.

....And I don't doubt for one minute that 'La Sha' and HuffPo's editor immodestly regard themselves as anything less than peerlessly liberal, compassionate, tolerant people too. Lovely.

The facts that 1. the other American captives in NK (political pawns, or hostages essentially) are of Korean descent and 2. lots of NK people (who are also of Korean descent) have been killed within that country's system of arbitrary tyranny, many of which have been very brutal... those facts are too inconvenient due to the fact that they aren't white.

Would it help if we were to tell the SJWs that NK regards black people as being the lowest rung of humanity, has an ideology which is based on maintaining racial purity and denies the Holocaust?

Katherine Dettwyler sounds like exactly what I'd expect from a rich, white, Amierican academic, who has never had a "real job" in her life and feels 100% comfortable in saying hate filled and viscous things with zero concern of repercussions while holding others to higher standards than herself.

I wonder what she would say if someone suggested she suffered through breast cancer because it was what she deserved?

What she says is beyond hateful. Knowing full well the deep pain Otto's family must be dealing with, right along with sympathetic citizens, she goes for the shock value of tearing into the youth Otto, his grieving parents, and the students in her class: all of them rich, white, male, spoiled kids who are raping young women without ever needing to pay for their crimes. What is she talking about? Who are these students she teaches who are actively raping sorority girls? This professor certainly says more about her own self-hating, white guilt whiteness than anything about her students.

I'm not going to feel sorry for this guy. He was fucking stupid. He went to a fucking country that has zero human rights and did something stupid. He was held responsible for his actions. This is what we want for women as well.
