So, it's okay for men to cheat when women don't fix pluming, pay mortgage, mow the lawn, assemble IKEA furnitures, take out the garbage, fix kids' bikes?

Or maybe, it's okay for men to cheat whenever men want women to do stuff and they don't, like you know, sex?

[+]rougecrayon -18 points-17 points-16 points 9 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

What part of this article said it justified cheating? It's never okay to cheat. But when asked why - the majority of women had the same thing to say - frustrated that their partner wouldn't help around the house. That doesn't put any blame on the man. I have the same feelings of frustration when my spouse doesn't help but I haven't cheated.

[–]FruitierGnome 32 points33 points34 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No that's just a bs excuse. They cheat because they are looking for greener grass over the fence and because soceity does not punish this behavior.

[–]lethrowaway4me 21 points22 points23 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

That doesn't make any sense. "My husband wouldn't do the laundry so I fucked the neighbor." How the hell does someone get from one to the other?? It seems like a complete non sequitur and an obvious attempt to blame the husband for the wife's misdeeds. It's like saying "my car wouldn't start so I murdered a cat."

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"my car wouldn't start so I murdered a cat."

You wouldn't believe how often this happens to me. Just the other day ...

Calm down, Mr. Bateman

[+]rougecrayon -8 points-7 points-6 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

No it's more a building frustration. After the 50th time the husband doesn't help out around the house, the woman contemplates if there would be a more helpful man out there. Then after the 100th time she may contemplate breaking up. Then after the 150th time - an opportunity to sleep with a guy she has chemistry comes up, and she takes it. In her mind she did this as a reaction to his unwillingness to help.

A man in the EXACT same situation, and decides to cheat - he may just say there was an opportunity or he was unhappy in general.

So for the same reasons they are cheating, but women will focus on a smaller thing, where men pay attention only to the whole picture.

Also, I don't think any (sane) woman would (not in anger) actually blame the man. It's not about blame. It's just this particular thing made me unhappy, and a mistake (or not) was made.

TL;DR - Women's logic is more specific than men's. When a man thinks "I am unhappy" a woman thinks "I am unhappy because..."

I really don't think it's about blame. It's like saying I broke up with my boyfriend because he didn't take me dancing. Well yes, he didn't take her dancing, but that's because he didn't like to dance. She needs a guy who will take her dancing. It's not fault, it's just the wrong guy for her.

[–]dungone 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

So you're blaming the man with your contrived hypothetical example. The truth is that some people are just selfish cheaters. They could easily break up if they're not happy. You could do that, if you weren't an asshole who is looking to make up an excuse to fuck someone over. The incentive is certainly there for female cheaters. They will demand gifts and favors from one guy only to turn around and demand even more gifts and favors from another guy, or even many other guys.

So many of the men I know who have been cheated on suffered through lies and emotional abuse that was created as a direct result of the woman's cheating. So many of these men had suffered extreme levels of financial abuse, having had money literally stolen, credit cards maxed out, and their savings depleted by women who simply felt entitled to having it all and treating men in any way they pleased. Many have even been victims of false accusations which strained their relationship with their families and their communities.

You forget that a woman can be a nagging, demanding, and downright demeaning person who asks men to do all the things she doesn't feel like doing for herself. She can ask 50, 100, and even 150 times, and yet never reciprocate in kind. Just because she's asking for something doesn't mean that she has actually earned it. You actually missed that entire part of your argument. What have they done to deserve it? And their cheating on that man just about proves in retrospect that they didn't really deserve a thing.

[–]rougecrayon -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

It's not about blame. It's not about trying to make the behaviour okay. It's just reporting the common link of women's anger.

[–]dungone 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Nah, because that's just such a tautological argument that it's not even worth mentioning. Of course the common theme for cheaters is to find a way to blame it on the person they are cheating on. And "not helping with chores" is the socially acceptable accusation that will draw the focus away from their own behavior and onto the man. They're scummy people. They cheat, steal, and lie while maintaining an unrealistic sense of entitlement. What do you expect? For a cheater to accuse someone else of being selfish or self-centered is the height of projection.

[–]rougecrayon -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You are completely ignoring the things i said. These women are being asked in a survey. No one is asking about blame.

My friend was cheated on her boyfriend said it was because he was feeling insecure that she didn't want to get married. It doesn't excuse his behaviour, but that was the reason in his brain. He wasn't saying it was her fault.

This is equal. Except in this situation these women are being asked.

[–]dungone 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Again, this is meaningless drivel. This is the criminal defending himself in court by claiming they have had a difficult childhood.

People just choose their explanation for their shitty behavior based on what they think is the most socially acceptable excuse. And based on projecting their own faults onto the other person to try to transfer those guilty feelings onto their victim and make them out to be the bad guy. They're mind-numbingly awful excuses and no one should spend more than 2 seconds giving them any amount of consideration.

To your acquaintance: So, you cheated because your girlfriend wasn't committed enough to the relationship? Oh you're such a good guy, not afraid of commitment! Please, go take yourself out of the gene pool right now, you freaking idiot.

[–]rougecrayon 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't excuse actions - and the person should be held accountable, but funnily enough the crime happens to be committed by people with difficult childhoods.

This article doesn't say it's okay that they cheated, just like it's not saying abuse is okay because most abusers were abused.

It's just stating a very common pattern.

Except I totally agree with your last point. He is a waste of space. lol

[–]g0ldent0y 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are incredibly sexist with your post. There is no womens logic and no mens logic.

Do I think it's true that women cheat more on men if they don't pull their own weight in a relationship. Of course that's true. But it's not different for men. They cheat too if women dont pull their weight. And even men have specific reasons to get unhappy. But it's never ok to use that reason to cheat.

You wouldn't be ok if the headline of this article would have been: women who nag get cheated on more often. Or women who fail to realise the contribution of their partner to the relationship get cheated on more often.

The article shifts the blame on men for being cheated on.

[–]rougecrayon -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From all the articles I've read on why women cheat and why men cheat, behavioral scientists seem to think there is a different logic because the majority of each genders answers were very similar like for women - help with housework.

It doesn't say women are more likely to cheat on men - cheat on men more often - if they don't help with housework. It says housework was a major contributing factor behind these womens experiences.

They are basically reporting what women think. Where is the blame - they are reporting survey answers.

[–]mochacola 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

Okay, I'll be specific. I told my wife to stop wasting time with PTA's brownie sales and newsletters, that we use those for family time. Take kids out, come home, put them to bed, have sex. After the 50th time, of not getting what I want, I cheated. Does that make any sense. How about, break it off, end it, and start a new relationship?

My ex never cheated but was constantly saying, "Women don't know they've married a bad deal until they've seen a bigger world.", namely, men with bigger houses and bigger bank accounts. Like another had mentioned, they then came up with bs excuse to be unhappy. Would a woman mind if she was married to Elon Musk and he doesn't help with dishes? I doubt it.

[–]rougecrayon 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I completely agree with you. Cheating is the worst kind of betrayal in my opinion, breaking up is such a better way of dealing with things.

The point of the article was the reason people cheat. Where is their anger coming from. Just because it's a terrible decision doesn't mean the decision is made in a happy relationship.

Elon Musk can afford to pay someone to do the chores. In a regular relationship which I feel the majority of people choose because of their feelings, and not the other persons bank account, a couple should share the chores equally.

The fact that you think it is a bs problem is the same reason all of these women are angry - their spouse didn't think their opinion was important either. When someone asks for help - a partner should help them.

[–]mochacola 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Okay. Let couples share chores. When he does the dishes, she mows the lawn; when he do the laundry, she fix and clean kids' bikes; when he takes out the garbage, she pays the mortgage; when he vacuums, she helps with kids' science projects. And then, she can then complain, "You never help with mowing the lawn."?

Chores had already been shared. It had always been a teamwork since my grandparents generation and probably many generations before them. It's not something new.

[–]rougecrayon 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not only do women do the most housework in general, people also still believe they should do more, despite income. Check out this, this, this, this.

Hamster logic

[–][deleted] 31 points32 points33 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

A poll of 10,000 female subscribers to Gleedon – a top site for married and unfaithful people – suggests that the best way to a woman's heart is by doing the dishes and the vacuum cleaning. Some 73 per cent of female members of the site quizzed on the matter claimed that they were driven to infidelity because their partner was found wanting in the housework department, from cleaning the toilet to emptying the washing machine.

There you have it, boys. The women have spoken, and we know that the way to a woman's heart is to take seriously their self-reporting about what they find attractive. Especially the self-reporting of unashamed cheaters.

https://therationalmale.com/2013/01/30/choreplay/

I had a party not too long ago where a funny thing happened. One of the guests — a 30-something, single straight guy — came out to the kitchen and volunteered to do my dishes. “That way you won’t be stuck with a huge mess after everyone leaves,” he said, filling the sink with hot, soapy water.

As he started scrubbing wine glasses, I glanced over at my guests. Every woman in the room was staring at him with what can only be described as pure, unadulterated lust.

Sorry, perhaps I should have NSFW'd that explicit depiction of equitable chore sharing.

You don't listen to what women say. Just watch what they do.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

a girl pushing a man to do non-manly chores is a shit test. it's guys' job to take out the garbage and mow the lawn. if a guy is cooking, it has to be cooking in a manly manner... grilling, fire, large knives, danger... none of this baking cookies in an apron bullshit. anything not-manly and the vag dries up like the sahara.

[–]Rasalom72 14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just another excuse... because it can't be because she wants a man who makes her feeeel horny.... naw.. it's because her husband doesn't do enough housework... pfft.. yea right.

We already know that women delude themselves about their real reasons for doing things all the time... why would they assume that the information they give doing this is in any way accurate.

[–]BobbyDropTableUsers 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There was also an article a little while back that said while women say seeing men doing chores turns them on, men who do housework are less likely to get sex.

Edit: found one article - it's not the one I was thinking of, but there were plenty of results.

[–]majortom22 10 points11 points12 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

...said every article about this ever.

Every article about her cheating on him is rife with sympathetic rhetoric, subtle blame shifting, moral relativism, etc.

Every article about him cheating on her? Animal! Pig! Woman hater!!!

It's a cesspool that permeates our media and culture.

[–]ExpendableOne 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This isn't really a new attitude. There's always been this somewhat popular notion that if a woman cheats on a man, it's because he wasn't a "real man" and her cheating is justified because "that's just her preference" and therefore cannot be held accountable for her actions.

[–]perplexedm 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, if he was a real man, she will not even expect him to do house chores. She will not let him do it.

[–]TheRealMouseRat 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Tl;dr: women lie on surveys.

[–]RubixCubeDonut 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Probably a side effect of lying to themselves. (A coping mechanism for people in general who don't want to admit they may not be the good guy in their internal story about their own lives.)

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points19 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So men have to go to work and deal with all the crap from 9-5, then go home and clean up the house and help with making dinner? While the woman does almost nothing? And then they say they want equality...

[–]InvaderDem 13 points14 points15 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think the site states whether the women who took the poll were employed or not. It doesn't justify cheating, but it's a fair argument that if both parties are working, both should be doing housework at home as well.

[–]equalopportunityaus 12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

As long as housework is defined as any unpaid work to keep the house in order. I am lucky that my wife sees mowing the lawn, house maintenance, etc as house work and is included in the split (as she does not want to do them). But most of my friends, they could spend a whole day working outside to keep the house/garden kept and their wife would complain that they have done none of the housework (but would complain if the lawn had not been mowed). I get this impression from a lot of articles also that housework only means "traditional housewife tasks".

My personal view is [paid work hours + commute time] + [unpaid work hours at/for the home] should be about equal in a relationship.

[+]rougecrayon -8 points-7 points-6 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even when women make more money than their spouse, they were still doing more housework in one study. The more a man earned the less he did regardless of what his wife was making, even when she was making more.

Why do you assume the woman is doing nothing? Source
