I go back and forth over dress codes. I don't really have anything against them as long as they're fair. The issue I have is that they always favor women. I've seen bans on the length of men's hair, but not women. I've seen bans on men wearing earrings, but not women. I have a huge problem with gender specific bans.

It gets a little fuzzy when the ban applies to everyone, but the effect impacts one gender more. For example a gender neutral ban on long hair in the military was expected to affect women more so they went full cry bully and went with the more discriminatory gender specific ban. Still, long hair is a choice. Maybe one pushed by society, but still a choice and men's and women's hair both grow.

There are also instances where bans are placed on differences that can't be helped like a height or weight requirement, which is OK if there is an actual work related reason for it. Now that I've gobe through my thought process, here is the story.

"“Our school board has a policy that does not allow any facial hair on male students,” Tangipahoa Parish school superintendent Mark Kolwe told ABC News today."

I'm not sure why he mentioned male students specifically. It could be bad phrasing or possibly that the policy does not apply to women or trans students. I also wonder if men are biologically more prone to have facial hair. Then you'd have men punished for a biological difference they couldn't control.
