Nothing new. People always laugh and cheer when girls are hurting boys. Still not as bad as this one, where a drunk woman sits on top of this young boy on the bus, rips off his shirt, and then tries to take off his pants as well, all while her drunk friends roar with laughter and he sits there trying feebly to stop her and looking terrified. Finally when she has his pants halfway off the camerman steps in and gets her off him but to think an entire bus full of people just sat there and watched this little kid being sexually assaulted by a grown woman and did nothing but laugh...pretty scary.

Dang, did she get charged?

Probably not.

[–]xynomaster 9 points10 points11 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

As far as I know, she did not.

[–]jimmywiddle 34 points35 points36 points 10 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

She is now being charged

http://abc7news.com/education/girl-in-sonoma-high-school-beating-video-will-face-charges/1205363/

It really gets on my nerves when people try and justify this type of behaviour with "oh she was being bullied" and never actually do any digging and reading to really understand why.

She wasn't being bullied, he said something about her on Facebook which is a huge difference. Imagine you walking in to your workplace on a Monday morning and behaving like this to someone there because "they had posted a comment" about you on social media..

Because of ignorant comments like "oh he was bullying her" half the comments are encouraging this type of disgusting behaviour instead of criticising her like they would of done if it was a boy fighting a girl.

I hope they make an example out of her.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

The sad part is this situation could've been solved another way. Even the boy's friend stated that in a different, polite form to the girl when she confronted them both.

But that would require levelheadedness and rationality. This girl wasn't put in an alternate school for nothing. She likely has a reputation for getting into trouble. Thus, she went and beat the boy up out of a sense of wounded pride and short temperamental disposition. Anger issues.

And the idiots in social media sided with her.

She shouldn't be the only one made an example of. It's the misandric, anti-boy bigots as well. And that jiu jitsu instructor who posted the video on facebook in support of all bullying victims who also sided with her. He may have been bullied as a child but gave bullied victims a bad name with these actions and opinions.

[+]v573v -11 points-10 points-9 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

He posted something. She confronted him. He threw water on her. She retaliated with violence.

It's not like he was just walking down the street minding his own business or he accidentally stepped on her running shoes.

He instigated a conflict with her and then escalated it into violence.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Excuse me, know your facts please.

She confronted his friend first and when she physically attacked his friend, the boy threw water on her and tried to push her off.

[–]v573v -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Awe shit! Is that why police everywhere are giving up their guns, tazers, mace, and clubs in favour of bottles of water? Throwing water on a fucking person will stop them from being violent? Hooray! violent wife? Toss some fucking water on her! Rogue cop with a gun? Hit him with water! Looney on a bus going berserk? A little bit of water will defuse that situation!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

It's very clear you don't know a damn thing about anything and are pushing buttons.

I'm done with you. Keep defending this girl's malicious, unprovoked assault on the boy's friend and the boy himself who you think should get his ass handed to him because of what he said online. Fine with me.

I just hope that, one day, when your eye is blackened, your lip bloodied, and your ribs broken by a woman after insulting her online you gain awareness of the level of apathy you showed those two young men.

[–]v573v 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not defending her.

I'm saying it's stupid to toss water on an already agitated person.

We should focus on better examples than this. He's as much a victim of his own stupidity as he is a victim to her violence. Let's not turn him into an innocent victim just so we can make a point because it rings false.

this story is only interesting on how the media covered it - that's the MRA issue. No mention of her violence being wrong and in most cases and no discussion about him not defending himself against her. It was not a fight by any stretch of the imagination - she was simply hitting somebody who didn't hit back.

You know what back on the Old Continent the Turks have a saying: "The one who talks without thinking, dies without getting sick." And it's you actually talking without digging and reading as mentioned by /u/v573v below: https://np.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/46sp7n/video_of_california_girl_beating_up_boy_goes/d081tam

Now if your Mom didn't teach you not to trash talk then she better have some First Aid kit at home for you and it doesn't matter if a boy or a girl kicks your ass. Frankly, my daughter at that age would beat him twice as much and it will take the teacher some time to get her off him too. But I should admit I'm a bad parent teaching her that she should stand her turf. About the charges - it means nothing, they charge, they drop charges too.

Should high school freshman be criminally charged for a 30 second fight that involved no weapons or major injuries?

Scares me to see the news casters imply the situation was improperly handled by not calling the police, on 9th graders.

Edit: Down vote away for thinking calling the cops on 13 year olds for fighting may not be the best way to deal with children. But you all must have such great faith in our criminal justice system. Calling the cops is usually the best way to deal with most situations /s. What a world we live in now.

[–]jimmywiddle 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

  1. She wasn't even part of the same school
  2. How do you know there are no injuries ? Being kneed in the head is likely to resulting in at least bruising.
  3. These were not exactly toddlers fighting. There comes a point when you have to take responsibility for your actions and examples have to be made.
  4. You don't know it was 30 seconds, all you are seeing is the last part of the fight. In fact I have seen video of earlier parts of the fight taken presumably earlier in the day which showed her trying to punch him in the face.

[–]Lostmyloginagaindang -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Brusing seriously? Do you remember high school? There were a couple fights a year when I was a kid, usually far worse than this and no charges were ever filed.

You really think calling the cops on 13 year olds for fighting and entering them into the great american justice system is the best thing for them?

edit:

  1. The schools are on the same grounds, its not like she drove over from a neighboring county to fight the kid.
  2. The reports did not mention any injuries. Most 9th grade fights do not result in major injuries.
  3. Yes, that is why the school has a disciplinary system.
  4. How long did the fight last then, and does it really matter?

[–]jimmywiddle 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

"The schools are on the same grounds, its not like she drove over from a neighboring county to fight the kid."

Thats irrelevant.

"The reports did not mention any injuries. Most 9th grade fights do not result in major injuries."

Your presumption here is that it had to be a "major" injury for it to be of significance. It did not. And relying on some of the hysteria based reporting on this to provide that level of detail would be being incredibly optimistic.

"Yes, that is why the school has a disciplinary system."

Agreed that the school she does belong to should punish her. However for him who does not belong to her school, he has every right to press charges. Why should he rely on another schools disciplinary process to correctly punish her for her violent actions ?

"How long did the fight last then, and does it really matter?"

Of course it matters, it all adds context to the story. If I told you that this had been happening for months, it would give the story a completely different context, to if it had just happened out of the blue.

Thats why we do our research before we spout nonsense, so our comments are educated and not based on media spin and knee jerk bollocks.

[–]RobDog101 30 points31 points32 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Girls have a window of time when they're bigger and further in their development than boys are and can beat on them, but even through this age boys are told never to hit females and these she-hemoths are still told it's empowering to beat up smaller males. Okay, so the next time there's a scene in a movie where a woman splashes her drink on a dude I wanna see him deck her. Equality.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Eh. That time isn't high school. That said, people come in all shapes and sizes--and more importantly, different levels of aggression.

[–]RobDog101 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I guess I didn't look at the facts carefully enough. I'd seen the video a while before this was posted and for some reason I was under the impression they were in middle school.

[–]AloysiusC 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And even during that age, boys have to meet higher standards at PE to get the same grades.

[–]Atheist101 25 points26 points27 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I love how the school is all like "oh shit we got caught on video, best make FB take down that video" rather than "holy fuck that girl needs to be reprimanded and we dont accept bullying on campus"

[–]Kragoroth 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

"The lesson here is that if it's not nice don't say it."

Isn't that fairly synonymous to

"While she was raped, she did have it coming."

So when a male is the victim, it's the fault of both parties. But when a female it's the fault of one.

[–]Alkomb[S] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah.:\

Smith said "the lesson to come out of this is to think twice, and if it's not nice, don't post it."

THAT'S NOT THE FUCKING LESSON! The lesson is "don't commit violence against people unless it is in self-defense!"

[–]Stephen1985 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They talked more about how the video shouldn't have been posted than they did about the attack

It may have been? There was an article the other day about something similar that said the girl was going to face charges, but I'm not sure if it was this same case or not. I wouldn't be too worried about it, the public reaction to this (cheering over a boy being violently assaulted) is so sickening that I think it's important to have here.

[+]ld2gj -21 points-20 points-19 points 10 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

He was harassing her. :/

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Correction. He said mean things about her grades on the internet.

That's basically what this beating was all about.

May I remind everyone else, like I did in the other thread, that this was all pre-meditated. She went to his school, looking to beat his brains out, attacked his friend who tried to be the voice of reason, then attacked the boy with flurries of punches that lead to what she did in the video.

The brat should have the book thrown at her. You don't beat the ever living shit out of someone for calling you names or insulting you online.

[–]ld2gj -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Oh, they went to different schools...girl needs to fry!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Yes. She attended an alternate school for troubled kids near the boy's high school.

[–]ld2gj 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Then she needs to be charged with assault and battery.

[–]Alkomb[S] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah, that makes sense, then. Still deserves to be in trouble, though.

[–]kursdragon 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Almost like you didn't even watch the video in question, where it clearly explains that she goes to an alternate school

[–]ld2gj -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I have seen the cell phone vid that show she beat the tar out of him. I read that he harassed her. But read nothing, from a different article, that she went to another school and confronted him at his.

[–]kursdragon 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm talking about the video that you are commenting on. The one this thread is kind of based on.

[–]neverXmiss 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Not a valid excuse. I suppose, he should beat the shit out of her if she was harassing him right?

[+]ld2gj -30 points-29 points-28 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

If he posed a threat, then yes. She acted in self-defence.

[–]neverXmiss 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Looking for someone and initiating physical violence is not self defense.

[+]ld2gj -7 points-6 points-5 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I am not sure what level of harassment he was causing, just heard the he was. If it was only name calling, than she assaulted a persona needs to face those charges. If he was a physical threat, then she went over board, but legal charges may not be needed.

Also was not aware that they went to separate schools. I was told he was harassing her.

[–]garglemesh42 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Harassment that doesn't involve physical violence does not deserve this kind of response. Block him, call his parents, tell the school, report it to the police? Sure, all of those are perfectly fine steps to take.

Beating the shit out of someone for saying "ha ha, you're bad a school!" is not acceptable, and it certainly doesn't qualify as self-defense!

[–]neverXmiss 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No level of verbal harrassment warrants a physical response. Based on the video she is the aggressor physically.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points15 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Assaulting someone just because they called you names online is self-defense?

[+]ld2gj -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

they are kids, they get into fights. This isn't a gender issue, its a parenting issue.

[–]Alkomb[S] 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

If a boy beat a girl like that, just for that, he'd be treated like a criminal by just about anyone/everyone.

[+]Bailie2 -6 points-5 points-4 points 10 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

maybe. A boy would probably be expelled. who says this girl wont be punished?

[–]Alkomb[S] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

If she does/did, imagine if a boy did it, he'd obviously be in so much trouble, though.

[–]Bailie2 -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

like there girls punishment hasn't even been decided yet. It was very aggravated assault. I'm all for mens rights. If it was guy on guy, would you expect any different?

Its Sonoma county. Its a bunch of spoiled rich kids. Half their parents just throw money at them and let them run wild. Its a parenting issue, not a gender issue.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Um, it is a gender issue too.

Why did people side with the girl for behavior that would get a boy in serious trouble? Why were people rushing to condemn the boy even though all he did was call her names?

[–]1981sdp 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They should be tried by a jury and all gender specific information hidden from the jury.

[–]Bailie2 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

are you in these kids class? you don't really know any of that.

this isn't multiple girls beat up multiple boys. the girls punishment isn't listed in the article.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know the facts culled not only from an outtake that the mainstream media conveniently left out but also from a comment from a person who had witnessed the situation unfold.

What do you have?

[–]garglemesh42 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If it was guy on guy, would you expect any different?

Alright. There are 4 possible combinations here:

girl beats up girl: people laugh and yell "catfight!" until it becomes clear that the attacker is deadly serious and the victim isn't fighting back. Still not treated as seriously as if a boy had beaten up a girl. Attacker gets yelled at by the principal, a strongly-worded letter to her parents, and after-school detention for a couple of days.

girl beats up guy: Everyone laughs and makes fun of the guy, girl doesn't get in trouble.

guy beats up girl: guy gets expelled for being a horrible monster, girl gets tons of sympathy.

guy beats up guy: both guys get in trouble and get suspended for a week, even though one guy was clearly the attacker and the other guy wasn't fighting back at all.

At least, that's the way it seems to happen nowadays.

So, yeah. There's some pretty severe issues with the way things are handled, and it definitely has something to do with the genders of the people involved, which would mean that it is definitely a gender issue.

[–]Alkomb[S] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So true, it's sad.:\
