Lisa is trying her hardest to defend the blogger lol

[–][deleted] 117 points118 points119 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Plot twist: Lisa is the blogger's other FB account.

[–]Northwesthip 48 points49 points50 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I'll agree with that

[–][deleted] 62 points63 points64 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Im semi ashamed to say I checked her fb profile and no shes not an alt account, but she does seem to be some sort of mad democrat who is head of a planned parenthood council (scary), she lives in the deep burbs of ohio and is single in her 40s. No sign of mr or kids.

[–]Northwesthip 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bizarre

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points34 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

An aging woman with no children getting really upset about the welfare of children and families? Now I've seen everything

Then you haven't spent enough time around cat ladies.

Ohio? Must be somewhere besides central ohio I'm guessing. Shit gets cray cray religious out here.

I think she is a fulltime defensive commenter.

[–]Treebranch1 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Lisa keeps on using the word "swish" when she should be saying "whoosh." It's embarrassing.

[–]A_Real_OG_Readmore 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Maybe she meant it as in, "You nailed it. Exactly right! Three pointer up! And in! Swish!!!"

[–]Treebranch1 -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

But she didn't. She was trying to say, "whoosh, you missed the author's point, it went right over your head."

[–]WillBlaze 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

who is she?

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Aunt? Cousin? In law? Friend of a friend?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe she's one of those professional 4chan trolls.

[–][deleted] 206 points207 points208 points 11 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

"Splitting the household chores and child-related responsibilities are all part of the day-to-day task we opt into when we get married and have kids."

Um...if she's splitting the household chores and child rearing, then why does she get a bonus? She ran an unprofitable business, for fun, I guess? She sounds more like a dependant than an equal partner.

[–]J973 131 points132 points133 points 11 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I noticed that too. I was a single mom, going to college, working, getting no help. Other than when my child was in paid daycare I did ALL the household chores and responsibilities. If he's working, she's not, he shouldn't have to do shit with those kids or the house. He should come home to a hot meal and a blow job. Christ. The ENTITLEMENT of some bitches is astonishing. Or her husband should quit his job, let this bitch pursue her career and then have her come home to help do work and take care of the kids, like what both parents have to do when both have to work to make ends meet and they don't get a fucking bonus!

[–]Dieselpoweredsybian 78 points79 points80 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Oh man, my GF makes way more money than me. We're both professionals in our trades, but hers is higher paying. If we settled down, had kids, and she wanted to work- be it because she likes her job or wants the higher income- she wouldn't even know dirty laundry existed in our reality. Which is exactly the way it's SUPPOSED TO BE IF YOU JOINTLY DECIDE TO HAVE A STAY AT HOME PARTNER. Caps means I'm super cereal right now.

[–]Marenjii 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Shiiieeeeet dinner would be ready the moment she got home as well. Outfit for the next day ironed. Everything swept and moped too.

[–]bikersquid 31 points32 points33 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

don't mope too much I try to stay upbeat when I clean.

[–][deleted] 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[permanently deleted]

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure Mary Poppins had a song about this...

[–]NerdFromDenmark 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She would also get a hot meal and a blowjob

[–]J973 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't mop, and every now and then I pay people to do a deep cleaning of the house, because that's not my strong suit, but it seems like this bitch is bragging how much money they have so it shouldn't be a problem to also hire a cleaner every other week.

[–]mrheh 19 points20 points21 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Problem is most women will lose respect for stay at home dads immediately. She will become extremely resentful you stay home and "do nothing" all day while she's working. Woman don't want to be the providers, I don't give a shit what feminism tells you the stay at home dad is an anomaly for a reason.

[–]p3ngwin 24 points25 points26 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

yep:

  • Mom stays at home rearing kids and housekeeping = Supermom doing "The most difficult job in the world"
  • Dad stays at home rearing kids and housekeeping = Lazy dead-beat dad

[–]catsfive 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But would she get a blow job when she gets home, that's what I want to know.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You should just blow some air up her asshole

[–]MyHandRapesMe 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"On my mama!"

I learned a new slang term recently. Did I do it right?

[–]grangach 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think I would actually prefer homemaking to having to provide for my family, that's a lot of weight on my shoulders.

[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This enrages me, my brother married someone who as soon as the vows were said quit her job and became pregnant, she became a stay at home mom, which my brother confided to me that he comes home to a dirty house, and her sitting on facebook all day or at her moms or sisters.

Months later he says she's improved but slips that he comes home and is cooking (after a 12 hour day) . I was like " why didn't she cook for you? She's home" he said " yea she does.... Sometimes, I don't mind I like my cooking better"

I threw the phone. These people exist and act entitled as hell and expect no responsibility for themselves. It's gross.

[–]J973 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dude. As a single mom I had great jealously and voodoo dolls of acquaintances and friends that had the luxury of being a "stay at home mom". I would bop in to their houses some days at 1-3pm and their kids were running around naked or in their pjs. Dirty fucking diapers. House a mess and them sitting at the TV or on the computer. As I was busting my ass to make ends meet and doing everything... yeah. It's all about who you fuck and have kids with. It makes all the difference in the World. Single mom struggling or spoiled lazy housewife.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's on vacation.

[–]catsfive 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mr. Goose? Yes, this is Ms. Gander. Ms. Gander? May I introduce Mr. Goose.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Seriously if you split all the tasks anyway than not working is clearly 100% your choice. How little do you do all day when there's still half the shit left for your spouse when they get home?

[–]ulthrant82 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Don't forget cheap child care. If you're a stay at home mom why do you have childcare? You ARE the child care.

[–]RodneyRuxinAMA 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've always wanted to be paid to run a lemonade stand where I drink all the lemonade. Then of course I would demand a bonus.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Here is her wedding day look how happy she is to not give a fuck about her husband. He looks like a sad sack of shit too.

http://imgur.com/rpOzBrq

[–]catsfive 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who'd they hire for a wedding photographer? Mr. Potato Head?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She's subtly leaning away from him. She clearly "settled" for him and I don't think there is any passion of her to him.

[–]41145and6 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Always look at the hips. His are headed towards her and hers are headed the other direction.

[–]p3ngwin 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"what's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine."

She's a spoiled brat who wants all her bills paid, with holidays, child-carers, financial freedom to do whatever she wants...oh and pocket-money.

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 187 points188 points189 points 11 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Best comment so far: "Another example of why men shouldn't get married. WHAT IS THE UP SIDE? The woman in this article chose to get married, have a family and now what...feels slighted? Wishes she had that six-figure income? Then don't get married, ever! Do as the men do, work your butt off in stress-filled jobs and die younger than your spouse. And by the way...I think your husband's dreams would've come true without you."

That last bit makes me smile so much.

[–]billbuxtable 45 points46 points47 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And by the way...I think your husband's dreams would've come true without you.

I had to wipe a small tear away after reading that part; that was beautiful.

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 25 points26 points27 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I fucking hate narcissists. This comment explained everything with that last sentence. It explained the entitlement, the bad logic, everything. I feel bad reaping the karma for it, but I had to make sure it got shared. The guy was a top commenter at HuffPo, so I'm sure he's okay with the share.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being married to her and attaining his dreams was definitely playing life on expert mode. All she did was prove his tenacity.

[–]billbuxtable 29 points30 points31 points 11 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

I can't wait for these two to get divorced - there will almost certainly be an issue with alimony, etc... The reasoning will be: "To maintain her lifestyle".

Because, you know, she'll be required to maintain his lifestyle as well with all the slave labor she's apparently providing by coming over to his house to cook, clean, and do laundry on the daily, break his balls bi-weekly with insults and condescending remarks, etc...

Oh wait, only her lifestyle being maintained will be a concern with the courts. I keep forgetting by pretending the legal system isn't sexist; just goes to show that if her role in the grand scheme of his life was so vital, it might actually be a consideration.

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

by coming over to his house to cook, clean, and do laundry on the daily

I doubt she does even that. She has housekeepers and a nanny no-doubt.

I honestly wonder. I've seen so many disgusting enabler relationships. The SO prolly is terrified of the very idea because he knows the shit will hit the fan and he might loose custody..so his tail is firmly wedged between his legs. I am torn between feeling sorry for the guy and thinking "WTF was he thinking marrying this b*tch" - he probably loves her for her horribleness, as many spouses of narcissists do.

[–]billbuxtable 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

True - that, and I'm almost certain his day-to-day life/routine is so full and hectic that he probably doesn't have a lot of time to devote to considering his options at this point, and when he does, it's probably overwhelming to even think about.

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean, imagine if she decides to take the children back to the US, while he's stuck in another country? Or imagine fighting custody in international law? He's fucked.

[–]41145and6 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait til she's asleep and start pumping pure nitrogen into her nose/mouth. It won't trigger the "Oh fuck I can't breathe" response and she'll never wake up.

Cry some crocodile tears and you're home free.

[–]p3ngwin 11 points12 points13 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"To maintain her lifestyle"

i can't stand that argument, the fact you're getting DIVORCED means you forgo the benefits of staying MARRIED.

If you want the benefits that come with being married to the other person, why are you getting divorced?

/looks at gender-biased divorce law...."oh, i see :("

[–]catsfive 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It makes me sad that divorce has been used by male idiots (I'm a male, sometimes an idiot) to hurt women. Because if anyone deserves to land in a refrigerator box on the street after a divorce, it's this woman.

[–]TheOldestProfession 87 points88 points89 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

I feel terrible for the guy who married her. I can just hear her nagging about everything.

"Why isn't the car warm, Steve??"

"Steve, what is this spoon doing in this drawer?"

"Steven Joseph Randall, I told you how many times to not put this pillow on the side of the bed!"

Fuck that.

[–]WillBlaze 28 points29 points30 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

she definitely has the face of a shrill harpy, I have a feeling her voice is like nails on a chalkboard

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points37 points 11 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

I read a comment in another thread earlier today, I think it applies here -- sadly I have to paraphrase since I can't find the original:

"My wife has this weird fetish where she likes to dress up like herself and act like a fucking bitch all the time."

edit: Credit for this fantastic joke goes to Bo Burnham, thanks /u/FlyingChainsaw !

[–]FlyingChainsaw 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty much the direct quote from Bo Burnham, so yeah.

[–]bf18 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bo Burnham ftw

[–]ScudstockI'm kind of a smug prick. So... 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Even if her voice "isn't".... I bet it still is.

[–]billbuxtable 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I keep imagining her as the type to just start talking right over him, and loudly, whenever they have a conversation - and he probably just lumps up in a corner and listens while thinking: "You know, a few years ago I was actually able to finish a sentence."

[–]TheFleshBicycle 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What IS the spoon doing in the drawer, of all places?

[–]PubFreakAcc 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh shit, yeah. I didn't even think of the minor complaining bullshit she'd probably be dong constantly.

[–]billbuxtable 82 points83 points84 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

He should get a bonus for being married to this insufferable person. A "wtf did I get myself into" tax deduction he can file every year.

Since using pseudo-logic seems to be her thing, I'd say this is as valid a point as her's...

EDIT: Typos

[–]djgrimx 70 points71 points72 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I hate seeing how she feels her sacrifice is more about not getting paid at a job than caring for her children.

[–]Snowfire870 26 points27 points28 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Exactly I would kill to spend more time with my daughter. I would happily give up a 6 figure income.

[–]KisslessVirginLoser 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

happy cake day bruh

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can't get over how she declares "getting to know my children" to be a smaller dream she has gotten to realise as a result of her sacrifice. Not only that but she lists it second after "running my own business (without needing to make a profit)".

What a cunt. I really feel sorry for her kids.

[–]Snowfire870 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For me as a male one of my biggest dreams was to have a daughter. Well I got one and I barely have the chance to see her because she is in another state. I would damn near pay to be able to see her if thats what it came to. (I dont move up there because its next to assured that I would homeless because of no support system.)

[–]p3ngwin 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I got to have a child and spend time with it, but still, i lost my salary......I'd sell this kid right now if i could"

[–]megamoze 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She states point blank in the article that "getting to know her children" was one of her "smaller dreams."

[–]GirthBoy 113 points114 points115 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

What a dumb bitch. Bet she tries to collect tips after boring sex

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I had sex with an ex girlfriend and then asked for a dollar once. Got "turn a trick" off my bucket list that way.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I got a balloon once, so I guess I was compensated for my services

[–]_no_fap...order, or confession? 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I hate to "burst" it to you, but that was not a balloon.

[–]seanthestone 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]billbuxtable 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]CADragon 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

billbuxtable. You are Swish no. 69.

[–]ThePrevailer 42 points43 points44 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I gave up A, B, and C and in return got X, Y, and Z. Oh, and I also deserve extra.

All those perks you mentioned as coming from being home are your bonus, sweetheart. My wife had to work and didn't get to run bad businesses just for funsies. She had to work her butt off so we could break even, which meant not being there for the kids as much as she wanted when they were little.

[–]expert02 18 points19 points20 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I look at it this way: How much would it have cost to pay someone else to provide the same child-rearing and home-keeping services the wife provided?

Take that amount, divide it in half (because the father would have paid half), and that's what her four years is worth. Number A.

Now, add up all the mortgage costs, car costs, child costs, food costs, insurance costs, etc., and cut that figure in half. That's the wife's responsibility. Number B.

Now, add up all the money the wife has spent on herself in the last four years. Number C.

Add up numbers B and C, and subtract it from Number A. The large negative amount you are left with is the actual monetary burden the wife has bestowed on her husband. That is how much money he would have been able to spend on himself or save, had she not made the selfish choice of not working (in essence taking a multi-year paid vacation so she can be with her children).

"But wait", someone says, "what about the $600,000 she would have made? She lost that money!" No, she gave it up. She knew what it would cost to hire someone to take care of her kids. In essence, she gave up her job as a (whatever she was doing that made her $150K per year after tax) to become a housekeeper and nanny.

Now, I don't see any other housekeepers or nannies saying they deserve a portion of the bonus earned by the person supplying them with money.

[–]electricalnoise 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, she also had childcare WHILE she was not working. I see no value in her as a person, she's nothing but a weight.

[–]sadicious 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love this logic. I like to put it in the same group as how I saved my household $1 billion by not buying $1 billion worth of useless shit. You can't lose money you didn't earn yet or save money you couldn't spend.

It isn't even a "sacrifice". A sacrifice is giving up one need for another. It sounds like they are swimming in money compared to most people, so to say she gave up potential money is a stretch.

Also, just because someone has the potential to earn money at a certain rate, does not mean they are worth that for every task.

You just defined feminism, fuck face. Anyone who got upset about my comment thinks of feminism as if it was claiming special rights for woman. I understand that's what it has come to in many cases, but that's just wrong

Fight the good fight, man. Most people are feminists and they just don't realize it.

If you think men and women deserve equal rights and equal opportunities, YOU ARE A FEMINIST BY DEFINITION.

There is such a negative stigma involved with the word. That's the problem. I thought I hated feminism until I met my gf a couple years ago. Coolest girl ever. Feminist. Who woulda thunk it.

[–][deleted] 33 points34 points35 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It really is the go to fallacy for feminists these days. I love pointing it out when they use it.

I read a comment a while back from a redditor that was extremely on point that went something like:

"If as a feminist you ever find yourself having to constantly differentiate yourself from all the nazi feminists maybe its time to find a group that isn't so flooded with nazis."

[+]OkToBeTakei -40 points-39 points-38 points 11 years ago* (35 children) | Copy Link

Not really. There's an offshoot of feminism now referred to as neofeminism, and it differs greatly from the egalitarian Feminist movement of the 60’s and earlier.

It's more about pushing a female agenda, and has nothing really to do about equality for women.

Edit: there seems to be some confusion, perhaps due to the unusually weak wiki article. Neofeminism does not share the same goals of Feminism. Neofeminism is focused on female empowerment regardless of anything else, and frequently at the expense of others, especially men. Neofeminists are, likewise, often also misandrists, and proudly so. It continues on in this direction...

[–]zeny_two 44 points45 points46 points 11 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

The Feminist movement of the 60s succeeded in all its goals. There exists no legal right that men have which women do not. On the contrary, women have more. Please, educate me on the current goals of the feminism to which you subscribe. To my eyes, it appears to be a sexist movement with the primary goal of gaining the (state-mandated) upper hand in all areas of life, as a sort of restitution for perceived past slights.

[+]OkToBeTakei -30 points-29 points-28 points 11 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

To my eyes, it appears to be a sexist movement with the primary goal of gaining the (state-mandated) upper hand in all areas of life, as a sort of restitution for perceived past slights.

What you're describing is Neofeminism (sorry the wiki article I linked was pretty weak). Feminism was an egalitarian movement, and has, yes, mostly succeeded. Unfortunately, most people get the two confused, or just assume some sort of evil mutation of Feminism has occurred, whereas an actual offshoot has formed that's really closer to FemiNazism than anything.

[–]zeny_two 16 points17 points18 points 11 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

I don't know enough about Neofeminism to argue its definition, so I trust what you say - it is the loud, sinister branch of feminism, and you do not subscribe to it.

However, I am still very interested in your Feminism's goals. Can you describe them for me?

[+]OkToBeTakei -23 points-22 points-21 points 11 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

I don't know enough about Neofeminism to argue its definition, so I trust what you say - it is the loud, sinister branch of feminism, and you do not subscribe to it.

I'd post better links, but I've been running around all day and I'm exhausted, so I apologize. But, I don't agree with those women. And, not to be a pedant, but the views of Neofeminists are abducted enough from proper Feminism, that many people would say all they really share, at this point, is the word 'feminism' in their name. But that's just arguing semantics...

As far as myself, what most would refer to as Contemporary Feminism or 'Third-Wave' Feminism is really no more than Egalitarianism, that is, equality for all. That's what I'm interested in.

[–]zeny_two 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

I ask about Third-Wave Feminism's goals because I've never heard one that doesn't amount to thought-policing. I want to believe there's some good in the ideology, but I don't see it.

One such goal is gender fluidity, or "even though men and women are biologically different, everyone should consider them the same and hold them to the same standards of conduct." It is an unreasonable imposition to expect that everyone changes their perspective, one that cannot possibly be enforced without legislation.

I ask about Third-Wave Feminism's goals because I've never heard one that doesn't amount to thought-policing. I want to believe there's some good in the ideology, but I don't see it.

That's because Third-Wave Feminism isn't really a thing. It's really just Egalitarianism. Women no longer need to expressly fight for equality; they got it-- in this country, at least.

One such goal is gender fluidity, or "even though men and women are biologically different, everyone should consider them the same and hold them to the same standards of conduct."

Actually, that's gender ambiguity. Gender fluidity is something else that has to do with non-traditional gender identities and isn't exactly relevant to this discussion, although it's a pretty interesting subject on its own.

But it's a shame that simple things like manners and self-control now have to be legislated because they are considered "unreasonable impositions."

Edit: gender-fluidity, in a super-simplified way, is like saying, "I don't particularly identify as a male today. I'll think I'll wear a skirt," or something along those lines.

I have never heard someone label themself as a neofeminist and until I see that happening I will continue to label you all as you label yourself. If you want to change the title of a movement you have to make the members of that movement change it. Until then they have the same right to define what feminism is as you have.

[+]Mxdem -15 points-14 points-13 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

And I have the right to say you are a squirrel, doesn't mean it's true. Anybody can have their own opinion, sure, and a "movement" like feminism (Although I think it's more of an idea that some movements tried to take ownership of) is bound to have people using it for some purpose and some other people for another purpose

Feminism, in it's origin, looks for woman's emancipation. If you want to label millions of people under your narrow point of view based on what only a few stupid entitled people do, then I'll call you a squirrel since you eat nuts.

This woman has lived abroad, has time to run a business, and still SPLITS child responsibilities with the father. Does she realize by her own admission, the father is doing equal child-rearing yet also working full-time while she gets to play around all day? This is the most ill-founded attempt at victim-status I've ever seen... I see in the comments below that someone found her Facebook and she appears to be single now. Big surprise there!

If any of you gung-ho, career-type women would like to work 60 hrs a week and make a half-million in bonuses in four-years, at the expense of actually raising your children, I'm your guy! You can work your ass off, and we will live in your nice suburban home, take vacations abroad, spend your money and maybe start my own side-business. Hec, you don't even have to worry about your figure... I already have the daughter. It's perfect.

[–]p3ngwin 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She regrets having a child and agreeing to be a mother so much, she wants cash, and at the same time to be "recognised" as a "martyr".

"I made my husband's dreams possible. His ability to "have it all" is built on the back of my sacrifice."

Really ? YOU made his dreams possible ? You sure you BOTH didn't AGREE on what the benefits and liabilities would be for both of you, you know, like a discussion that ends with agreed terms ?

Where's the part you were oppressed and forced into forsaking your career ?

"We chose to have a family, a decision that ended up impeding my ability to find a job. We chose these things together, but they did not come without a cost... one that was paid mostly by me."

Bullshit, you agreed he would be the financial earner and you would keep house and raise kids, only you didn't have even do that much because you had child carers! All the while enjoying financial independence, holidays, and more.

Of course having a child means at least one of you can't have a full-on career, you think you can do 60-hour work weeks and be a 24hr parent ? That's the deal you made, one of you earns, the other parents. You regret your decision, that's not his problem to solve just because you made a mistake.

"Before anyone passes me a tissue or lights a torch in my honor, I want to point out that I am NOT a martyr."

You're kidding right? you think you deserve applause because you're a parent, and even one with paid child carers ?

"I got to live abroad, which had always been a dream of my own. I took advantage of the luxury of financial stability and very affordable childcare to explore some smaller dreams -- running my own business (without needing to make a profit), getting to know my children, creating my blog and writing for fun. None of these things would have been possible had I stayed on my 60 hour-a-week, fast-tracked career path I'd been on before we settled down."

So let's get this straight, you had: - Holidays abroad - Affordable child care - Chance to run your own business without need to make a profit. - Had more time with your children than if you worked full-time - Had fun with your writing

...and you think you're mother-of-the-year who deserves a special financial award ? Sounds like you had your cake and you still want to have it after.

"But as much as I can play around with imaginary numbers and try and put a price tag on my experience as a sacrificing spouse, the actual losses from four years of virtually no salary cannot be overlooked. "

They're not "losses", that is the agreement you made, the balance of risk/reward you intelligently made and AGREED to.

You don't get to absolve yourself of responsibility for your own choices simply because you made mistakes and don't want to accept the reality of your actions. You're a parent now, not an irresponsible teenager, so grow up.

"Over half a million dollars in earnings -- not potential earnings, but the real, total of four years of paychecks at my pre-baby salary -- this is the true cost to me (and to our family) for putting my husband's career dreams at the top of our list."

You're "family" didn't lose out on anything, it got one parent working and one at home, which was going to happen either way. You're the only one regretting anything.

That was what you signed-up for, and now you regret it. Who's problem is that ? You made a gamble on something you thought was agreeable, and now you want renege on your own terms? Sorry, gambling doesn't work like that.

You made your bed, now lie in it, which from the sounds of it you've already had a good time already so it's difficult to even sympathise with you complaining about "missing out" on anything.

"Four years of bonus checks I would have otherwise received and stocked away in my bank account to spend however I wanted."

Four years your husband could have still had a deeper relationship with his wife, a healthy sex life, nights out and a team player, a partner in love and commerce had you both not agreed to start a family.

But you DID agree to have children, and that's what it takes, the ability to intelligently choose what you believe will lead you both to happiness. If that means one of you stays home, then that's what you both agree is the best options, and you don't regret what you can't have, because you can't have it all. You have to choose, and you obviously chose poorly.

"Now I would never call my husband my boss (not even while under an anesthetic), but I would absolutely agree with her that I earned some chunk of my husband's bonus check."

You agreed to give up your career, so you don't get to take his when you had a comfortable life compared to other parents who are struggling : "I took advantage of the luxury of financial stability and very affordable childcare ". yea, such a sacrifice and a martyr. It's not enough you had a luxurious lifestyle completely free of financial obligation, now you want "pocket-money" like a spoiled child ? Grow up

"Splitting the household chores and child-related responsibilities are all part of the day-to-day task we opt into when we get married and have kids. But big sacrifices like the ones I made -- giving up a career and a fat paycheck of my own -- well, those deserve a little extra recognition."

Unbelievable, you really think what's yours is yours and what's his is also yours. You agree to forsake your own career, but not to forsake any claim to his hard-earned salary? You are a self-centered, narcissistic, gold-digging hypocrite.

"Calling it a bonus and making it clear that it is mine further underscores my right to spend it as I see fit."

Not helping the "gold-digger" stereotype at all. the way you feel entitled to another person's assets when you agreed to forfeit your own is disgusting.

"How much money I got in a bonus and how I spent it is nobody's business but my own. And if you don't think that my sacrifices earned me that money, you can STFU. I made my husband's dreams come true, and that is worth some money."

Amazing, you really can't stand the fact you agreed to forfeit your own career while he enjoys the fruits of his own labour. Meanwhile you can't tolerate the idea you completely failed in your choice to swap your own career for parenthood. So clearly someone else should pay for your mistakes right ?

I'd like to pull a reply, pulled in completion responding to another user mentioning that the wife bonus was intended to get their kids into the right schools and making the right friends, she made on her website defending the position:

You may very well be right, but even if that was the case….don’t you think that to some degree, the wife’s ability to run in the right social circles and the children’s presence at the right schools had some impact on the husband’s career? I think we can all admit that in some parts of our society (however grotesque they might be), these things do count, and in that case, the extra work that the woman is doing to support the overall career progress of the man should STILL be recognized. I’d argue that we should be indicting that fascia of society as a whole, rather than shaming the women ONLY.>

Wow whatever social circles she is in I do not want to be in. Sadly a lot of them are full of bat-crazy women like this who have cobwebs where their frontal lobes are (from not doing any real work you know and not ever being questioned because they hold exclusive access to the sex...) Being around dumb women and enabling their dumb behavior does NOT enrich your children. It doesn't matter how rich a family is. If a rich family is dumb you really don't want them near your children, because that makes the toxicity often even more enticing, extreme, dangerous and toxic (money=power=power to abuse and get away with it.)

Lisa's FB says she likes:

Democrats

Female Fat Loss Over Forty

Mother Jones

MoveOn.org

Lambda Legal

So she's fighting for all this and defending an entitled, rich, white person for some reason. I'm confused.

I hate when women act like they didn't have a choice when they decided to get married and have kids.

I know plenty of women who have great careers who don't want children and don't want to get married because they love being financially independent.

I just have to mention that staying in the black means you are profitable. What the title should read is that she wouldn't have to worry about going into the red.

On a completely unrelated note, she is quite the bitch.

She didn't really have to worry about either one

I like how she never even considers that, were she not at home, she'd have to pay for daycare and other services. I also like how she does get to stay at home..............and he still does his "fair share" of chores. His "fair share" is fucking zero.

I understand wanting nice things... Hell I'd be lying if I said I haven't ever splurged on myself. But since when do material things determine people's worth? I feel like if my needs were met and I could stay home with my child and raise them, of course every once in a while a thoughtful gift from my husband would be appreciated, but my self worth wouldn't deteriorate if I didn't have designer shoes and bags or a lump sum at the end of the year. If my husband told me he appreciated me every day I feel like I'd be a happy camper. Plus, who has time to chase after kids in Louboutins anyways? My chucks are 4 years old and comfy as hell and much more convenient for keeping up with kiddos. I'd much rather have a partnership type marriage than a business arrangement. But that's just my personal preference I suppose.

[–]professorbooty25 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She said she had child care... Why not use that child care and get a job like the rest of the working class? I know parents that would leap at a $500K a year job. That pays way better than all of our jobs combined. Fuck that bitch.

While I agree that its crazy to ask for a "wife bonus" there is such needless female hate in this post. (Yes, I know what subreddit I'm posting to)

Really, I'm more concerned for the relationship between her and her husband. This article means that there are some underlying issues that they need to work out. (9/10 its probably a communication issue...It always is. )

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like she needs to shut the fuck up and do more chores around the house.

It took me a second but I get it now. The general point that there needs to be a better way for wages to support moms, and for society to monetarily recognize parenting, stands. It's just that none of what she was saying applies to her, since her company already provides that.

[–]electricalnoise 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

monetarily recognize parenting

It's called not having to hold a "job". A marriage isn't "you and me" it's "us". She could have worked and got childcare, and had all the money in the world. Instead, she didn't work (except to run her own failure business), got the childcare anyway(why if you're not working, WTF do you do with all your time?), lived a fairly lavish life, and now thinks she was slighted in some way? Good Jesus.

[–]theaftstarboardI suck hard at comedy 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you look at her facebook page, she likes to try on different kinds of pajamas, oh and post a lot of memes to facebook.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, there needs to be a greater incentive for going to work than staying at home. Getting rid of alimony would be a good start.

[–]Provokyo -5 points-4 points-3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not entirely sure we disagree. Going to work can go towards paying for daycare and whatnot. But if wages are only high enough for a single person to support themselves, and therefore not enough to help support a family, that's not a good thing.

I'm not sure what your axe to grind is with alimony, so I'll just ignore it.

[–]Donkeywad 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

and for society to monetarily recognize parenting

Are you suggesting the general population pay a tax that goes to paying moms to raise their own kids?

[–]healious 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

we already do this in Canada, its called baby bonus, it depends on how much the family makes, but its a few hundred bucks a month in most cases

[+]Provokyo -11 points-10 points-9 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I mean, basically yes. Society already does, with family tax credits and public schools. And not necessarily to moms, but to stay-at-home dads too. To put it in a more general and non-inflammatory language: do I believe society ought to support the mechanism by which it survives? Yes I do.

[–]cgKush 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a ridiculous amount of money to tax everyone else because someone feels like having children. What if they decide to have 10 children, or have them way before they're ready? You shouldn't have a child unless you are able to support it, it's simple. No one else should have to pay for you to have a child. I'm all for maternity/paternity leave, even extending it, but them it is up to the parents to work out how they are going to take care of their children. No one is forced to give up their job to have kids.

[–]Donkeywad 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

What becomes of the child care industry?

[–]Provokyo 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure I understand your question.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oh so who gives a fuck about fathers, right?

[–]Provokyo -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's...not at all what I said. There needs to be better support for dads too.
