I just want to drop a note here to point out something that I think helps clarify the difference in these numbers.

One becomes a 'victim of attempted suicide' ie someone who attempted to kill themselves but failed, by responding 'yes' to an interview question or by ticking a checkbox on a survey.

There seems to be this naive assumption that for each attempted suicide there is an ambulance call, a police report, some heroic medical story - no, not at all.

Many women have claimed at some point that they, at some time, attempted suicide, that is all that number means.
