College-educated doesn't mean you got an education in something worthwhile.

There's an awful lot of "college-educated" Starbucks barristas out there that can't get a better job, because who wants to hire a women's studies or psychology major for... well, anything? Can't design or build a building, can't write software, can't design a CPU ... can't design intersections and stoplight timings, can't build roads ...

What about engineers?

[–]dungone -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's probably because architects can't design or build a building, either.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But the expect a man with a degree and a good paying job, so they will remain single

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think this comment assumes that the only worth while degrees are one's in the stem field and that the only people who have a degree that are unemployed are unskilled, lazy, or have a worthless degree. While there is a tendency for people in the stem field to have less unemployment/underemployment issues, I don't agree with the notion that degrees outside of stem are worthless.

Can't believe somebody downvoted you for that when it's bloody true lol, methinks there are some jaded graduates lurking about.

Can we have a STEM major circlejerk now?

[–]Lethn 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hur hur it's so awesome oppressing those females and keeping them out of STEM :P

Back when college was selective and mostly male, going to college was a good way for a young woman to meet a husband. She was entering a domain of men who either were of above average intelligence, or from wealthier families who could afford to send their sons to college. Women were outnumbered on campus, as well, so they were in high demand.

Today, you don't have to be wealthy or intelligent to go to college. Pretty much anyone can get into a state school. Women still have the mentality, however, that just because they went to college they are deserving of the same superior man that women a generation or two ago were marrying. But women are now 60% of college grads; men just aren't going to college anymore. When women don't get married in college, that mentality extends to their post-graduate lives.

Women at that age (20s to early 30s) are still in demand to an extent, as they're young and men are attracted to young women. But the sort of man they feel they're entitled to simply because they have a degree just doesn't exist anymore. Single young men still pursue them, but they're not good enough because they don't have that degree.

Getting a bachelor's degree in most fields is not hard, and most of these women have majored in one of these low-demand fields. If they were smart they should have chased an engineering or pre-med major in college, but they didn't. Even better, they should have majored in a high-demand field themselves.

I think it will all balance out in the long run, naturally. Young adults will stop going to college just for the sake of getting a degree that is worthless in our current economy. Women will (hopefully) stop complaining about not being able to meet "educated" men, or assume they should be paid as much as an engineer because they have an education degree. They need to start realizing they're not entitled to anything just because Jezebel tells them they are.

And of course men are to blame for failing to measure up to women's hypergamous expectations. It's not that the women should stop being shallow and start dating less-educated men (as men have been doing since forever), no, men should man up and get a better job to prove the superiority that women crave so much. I'd laugh but it's just getting sad at this point.

I have to mention that one of the stupidest teachers I ever had in College was someone with a PhD. It was a humanities course, 2 of which were mandatory in my program, and I chose that one because it fit snugly in my schedule. He was teaching us about Indigenous people. He kept on talking about types of "magic" that native people believed in, the types of "medicine" they used (like types of tea made from bark), and kept on implying that modern medicine was useless and detrimental compared to the superior knowledge that indigenous people obtained through the earth.

That was just one of many bad teachers I've had, of course. But I just wanted to say that having university degrees is constantly becoming more meaningless. It's no longer a proper indicator of education, or the amount of culture and intelligence that one possesses.

[–]bertreapot 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've met plenty of not very bright college professors. I think they just got relatively good grades and stuck to it. Now they're supposed to be the most enlightened members of our society. That's far from the case.

[–]mwobuddy 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Women are single because they choose to be single. It's completely their choice.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Funny there never seemed to an issue like this when there were more highly educated, higher socioeconomic males.

Because men know about sharing and giving in relationships and women don't.

Women understand about taking and getting and not working hard for someone else's benefit.

So now it's a problem.

[–]mwobuddy -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's why lesbian relationships break up 4x more often than gay relationships, and 2x more often than hetero.

Two of the same type in a relationship seems to be too volatile to stay together.

[–]PerniciousOne 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

These 75% of college educated men have a much bigger pool of women to date. They do not care what socio-economic level they may be, they will date waitresses and cashiers, to women educated to the same level. They typically care that they are reasonably attractive. And since they are in demand they can demand more of a hook-up culture.

[–]Wargame4life 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lol oh no how will men compete without a degree in lesbian basket weaving.

how insecure they must feel in not spending $100k for a certificate of obedience.

lets hope men dont actually channel their energy into effective skills with industrial relevance. because the "wage gap" will go into meltdown.

[–]Leinadro 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Parents, if you're looking for some motivation to get your son to study and apply to college that might actually connect with him, this story — for better or worse — might be what you need.

Because being able to support himself and being able to contribute to society arent enough? Nope its all about getting aa woman.

Like a damn Axe commercial.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Assuming you have to have a degree to support yourself and contribute to society.

I wish all the bullshit about how college people are somehow superior will go away.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That is not why you are single. In marriage, the risk of losing it all is very high. Smart men want no part of marriage.

[–]bumbuff 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A lot of women are also dating a guy they think is monogamous with them too. Skews the results.

[–]LuvBeer -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Things men look for in women:
-youth
-hotness
-agreeable, fun personality

Things men don't give a fuck about in women:
-advanced degrees
-number of countries travelled to
-career
-volunteer work
-ability to "be one of the guys"
-athletic skill
etc etc

[–]atheistunicycle 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This is not true. I'm definitely much more interested in a girl with her own career. Or a well traveled girl.

[–]double-happiness 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm definitely much more interested in a girl with her own career.

Pretty much the first thing I look at when I click on an internet dating profile is to see what their profession is. Too bad so many of them just say 'got one' or 'ask me'. -_-

[–]bertreapot 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i think meeting a girl at random, fun, nice and attractive are the early stage things that would matter.

Anymore, if she doesn't have a good career or goals that's more of a negative for men. Our generation of men is smartening up to the sort of woman who is just marrying for a paycheck. Not that we wouldn't want to support her if our careers allow it, but that it's more likely if things end badly she'll take you to the cleaners.

Intelligence is the number one factor for me...

[–]Lobstermansunion -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Actually, it's because women in Miami's expectations for men's money, status and looks are the size of the Goodyear blimp. Plus, many women limit themselves to their own ethnic demographic because they don't want to get the evil eye from their community.

(I lived in Miami for many years.)

[–]bertreapot 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Miami of all towns strikes me especially as the sort of place young women flock to chase money. I suppose the prospects are better there than in Podunk Indiana, but if women with bachelor's degrees are a dime a dozen don't expect much success.

[–]Lrellok -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

slow claps congradulations, you have discovered class warfare ladies. Nice job. Now, what is your answer to the question of daily bread.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

There are many couples were women have completed a higher level of education than their male partners. If someone were to claim that the sole reason they're single is because of some class structure, i'm guessing that lacking a college degree isn't their only problem.

[–]bumbuff 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I bet you any money that guys have less of a problem than women when it comes to their partners education levels.

Women don't want men that 1) make less money than them and 2) have less education than them. It's an alpha-beta crap shoot.

[–]ElectricFleshlight 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I make way more money than my husband and am more educated. I just love him.

[–]bumbuff 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's awesome.

But that still doesn't make the generalization I made untrue.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah. Try making an online dating profile. See the difference when you list your earnings. When you go from lower pay to doubling that, it is odd how much more attractive you became in such a short period.
