Imagine if a group were to hold some sort of get-together like this and say something like: "Please note: this workshop is open to all students with the exception of black men (as it is held in a university safe-space)."

Why is this OK? Are men not allowed into a "safe-space?"

Anti-feminists really need to start taking stands at events like this.

The message would be simple. "While I am against bigotry, I refuse to fight against bigotry alongside a group that proclaims in their opening statement that they are proud bigots. If this is "Feminism 101", the fundamentals of feminism, then I safely conclude feminism is worth denouncing as a segregatory, misandric hate group.

I ask all non-feminists to join with me in fighting bigotry in all its forms, even feminist bigotry, and for feminists who disagree with this assessment to offer up valid justification or unconditional condemnation to their brethren feminist members for alienating and discriminating against an entire group merely for their gender, ironically during a feminist introduction to fundamental issues that face people because of their gender.

I challenge you to 'change my perceptions of feminism' (as the event my male peers and I will be unable to attend claims to be its goal)... because my perception of feminism remains the same unflattering judgement as it was before I was rejected from their group on the basis of being the 'wrong' gender. Alternatively, barring the possibility of a valid excuse for discrimination based on gender, I counter-challenge feminists to change their own perceptions of feminism, and to reconsider whether they wish to continue claiming to fight against bigotry while in lockstep with bigots."

Somehow I think that their definition of 'debate and discuss' may not be quite the same as mine.

It would be in keeping with feminist tradition for someone attending their meetings to run a check on the functionality of the fire alarm system. Or would that be 'oppreshun'?

Great to know that all you have to do to be unwelcome is be born with a penis and not be confused about who you are.

I suggest that all the men intentionally do not attend the September 1st session, and then just hold a passive protest during the day of the 8th. (To avoid any unneeded police interference, I advise arranging it to end before the workshop is due to start). Like a hunger strike, but with food, and signs that read WHY AM I BANNED FROM AN EQUALITY WORKSHOP BECAUSE OF MY GENDER

the hilarity of this is that its completely self defeating, would you go to a "debate and workshop" on "creationism versus evolution" if they specifically banned "anyone with any scientific accreditation or qualification"

the value of a debate or workshop is to bring and stimulate ideas and test and tease out principles etc to criticism.

the instant you artificially exclude people you answer you own questions and declare how futile and worthless the entire exercise and movement is.

The events welcome debate. OP, go and debate if you disagree, though I recommend civility.

Phrases like "if men can be feminists, and how feminism supports and assists men" open them to the questions

"If you have to ask if men can be feminists, doesn't that necessarily mean the movement is at odds with equality? If it was based on equality, how could it ask that question?"
"If you ask how feminism supports and assists men, are you open to hearing how it hurts men? Are the voices of men and women who disagree welcome? Are you open to hearing how men's rights supports and assists women?"

It says it's hosted by UQU, so seriously bring it up to the board. People are supposed to review events like this so either the planner or the reviewer are in trouble. Also, I think it would be funny to see only a swarm of Indian men show up for the Bollywood movie.
