So most women (in my experience ) claim to want equality but actually don't want equality. As they want to be looked after / taken care of etc. This applies to feminists who cry about the fictions wage gap. The mind boggles , this is just crazy and stupid how women claim one thing with their mouths (equality) and with their actions they take the opposite.

It's called hypergamy. Feminists claim it is caused by women having less financial resources than men due to the patriarchy, so women compensate by selecting higher earning partners. Personally I think it's at least partly instinctual. Male doctors don't have a problem dating (attractive) female secretaries, but the reverse is exceedingly rare even in our age of "equality."

I think it comes down to female sexual advantage (male attraction) combined with the fact that females bear the burden of pregnancy (disadvantage). Males have a stronger sex drive, so females have the option of being picky with their choice of mates. To put it in crude terms: if you had the option of selecting a Ford Pinto or a Ferrari, which would you choose? [ironically, nature plays a trick on women here -- many men with high social status/wealth/confidence ARE the Pintos, whereas all sorts of men with less wealth/status/confidence are the real catch]

Some Red Pill types argue that female sexual liberation entails male sexual enslavement; it supposedly creates a "harem" society where the top 20% of men get all the sex while the other 80% go without. I'm not sure if there is any compelling evidence for this. If it is true it would mean that traditionalist models are actually more sexually egalitarian than feminist models. However, because traditionalist societies place (sometimes strict) limitations on female behaviour they are understandably regarded as unfair by women.

I'm not sure there is a solution to this problem that would be fair for both sexes. One way of allowing women to retain their autonomy while semi-correcting the power imbalance for men would be to legalize and de-stigmatize prostitution. It's not a pretty solution, but it's not a pretty problem. Mother nature is both a nurturer and a cold-hearted bitch.

Women do NOT want equality. Women through that idea under the bus many decades ago. If you hear a woman say she wants equality drill down on a couple issues and you'll find she's full of shit.

"So you think women should be eligible for the draft?"

"So you think fathers should share custody upon divorce?"

"Do you believe in the women and children first concept?"

Etc...

That is very often true, and it's just that the people saying this think they deserve more money, but don't feel they should have to "settle" for a man making less. It's typical hypocritical crap.

I'm happily dating someone who makes more than me, and she doesn't find it off-putting at all...neither do I!

Well duh. You're literally asking why do people want more money rather than less. The real question is why that doesn't happen with men too. Why are men all "sure I'll totally carry all the weight of this relationship financially" so often?

I want equality, that's why I want someone who will be able to pay around as much as me for the stuff we share.

I don't need him to pay more though.

And I as I am 26 and going for younger guys, I don't expect them to already be in their career. I just want them to work and plan a future.

I'm from a poor upbringing, I don't chose a job for money, and I don't expect my bf to do so either. Just not to always worry about money

Partner preferences are more socialized than biological. Some people will say that it's because women are hypergamous, but it's probably more of a relic from an era where women did not work, and relied on a man to financially support them.

The idealized notion of a man required that he be able to support a family. Now that this is no longer necessary, the 'ideal' still persists.

Another reason is that women being economically self-sufficient is actually fairly new (only a few generations now). So women being able to financially support themselves is seen as an exception, a special case, a "bonus". If a man can't measure up to that minimal standard, the he appears "lazy" by comparison. She's "excelling", he's "lazy".

In any event, I think this preference is going to start to die off over time. I know many couples my age where the woman makes more, and it doesn't bother them at all. Women earning is no longer rare, but the norm.

Further, many men now expect and demand that their wives be equally able to support the family, so if this preference does continue, it will quite possibly become a gender neutral preference.

I think it's because of the reason this sub justify the wage gap. Woman will choose family over money, and at least one person logically has to if you're going to raise a kid, our culture defacto assumes its going to be the woman taking that time off and resulting hit to her career, so she need a partner who can pick up the slack.

It's unfair that a lot of criticism of feminism is that it makes woman bad mothers who choose careers over kids, but then woman are also criticized for looking for a partner who would ensure she doesn't have to do that. Don't trap woman into a lose-lose situation that's not nice :C.
