That's "rape culture"? That women are so weak that they don't have the ability to say "no" when asked to have sex? That they need to be protected from their decisions to go over to a guy's house to hook up? That they are children, incapable of making decisions for themselves?

Well if that's what rape culture is: that women are weak, spineless, and so easily manipulated... why the fuck do we allow these large children to vote?

If that's "rape culture" that women are incapable of handling adult responsibilities like saying "no" then that's fine. But we will remove their adult rights as well.

The thing with "rape culture" is that it ignores the reality of sexual interaction in place of an idealised and sanitised theorisation in which everything is black and white with no grey. In reality there is a lot more grey than black and white, reluctance isn't the same as withholding consent and girls don't want to be seen as slutty by agreeing easily to casual sex.

The linked post reads like a troll post because it too perfectly encapsulates the idealised example of consent being mistakenly ignored, but it has been deleted now so who knows, maybe OP took the advice offered and deleted it? Either way when both parties enter into the act of sex willingly and without coercion it should not be possible to secure a rape conviction no matter how reluctantly either party was. The debate in this case centres on whether the girl can claim she was coerced and feeling coerced isn't the same thing as actually being coerced i.e. she is just as capable of misreading signals as he is.

Rape culture as feminists use it is a nonsense term without meaning.

There is a rape culture when it comes to male prisons and boys being raped by adult female teachers where society in general seems indifferent if not outright encouraging of the practice.

But women being raped is pretty much always viewed (in the modern west) as a horrific tragedy.

You can find lone instances where celebrity trumps our concern for women (like when people defend an athlete or politician).

But those are pretty specific.

Generally speaking the only broad cultural norm that supports rape is for the rape of men in prison and boys by women.

/and from the description it doesn't sound like he did anything wrong. It sounds like she was a nut.

"Rape culture" is only a thing in American prisons and the term should not have been stolen from there by idiotic people who want to perpetuate female victim culture in the United States.

This incident (if it actually is true, which I'm not entirely convinced of) is not a result of rape culture, but a result of one man's mind that couldn't read signals that she's just not into it and a woman who seemingly never clearly said "No," or "Stop." Maybe you cannot fault her for it. Maybe you can. We don't have all the details. But perhaps this truly is a grey-area rather than a clear-cut assault.

So, what you are trying to show us is how someone can feel raped even if the other party had no idea what they were doing could be construed as rape. You aren't showing us anything we don't know. In fact, we are completely in agreement in regards to how women can often feel raped... even if the scenario does not meet the legal requirements for rape. This is actually the exact issue we have and something we talk about a lot on this sub in regards to how that leads to false rape accusations.

So, basically you have argued that feelings > law. Okay. Fair enough, but I don't see how this argument can go anywhere useful. Men can't read minds, and are going to have an even harder time making sure women don't feel raped rather than following the more concrete guidelines of legal consent.

What do you propose we do as a society for women who feel raped but have not been legally raped? Should men who make women feel raped be prosecuted as rapists? Because that is pretty much where current law seems to be heading. And, we are already there on college campuses. At universities, feeling raped = raped, and feelz rapists are often expelled.

Ehh, I don't see how that thread proves "rape culture", if anything it's kind of a big argument against it.

Anyway, no MRA wants anyone to be raped or for consent to be treated as something not important, but the interesting thing is that society doesn't seem to expect or demand for women to make sure that a man's feelings are top priority in the same way that we do with men.

Let's do a small experiment, OP, in 6 months I'll create the same thread that this guy did in /r/legaladvice on a new account, word per word, except I'll act like I'm a woman who did the same thing to a man, and we'll check the difference between people's reactions to both cases.
