I'd like to preface this by saying that I am not trying to troll or start slinging accusations at anyone in particular. The purpose of this post is to start dialogue regarding some of the issues that I believe are detrimental to the cause of equality and men's rights.

I subscribe to r/mensrights because I wish to support equality for all. I feel that there are so many instances where we men are discriminated against in socioeconomic spheres, accepted cultural norms and institutional sexism.

It's not right, it isn't fair and I hope someday that these are issues that are more widely recognized and something that can be resolved.

Many of the issues that I have with the r/mensrights community are the same issues that I have with many feminists groups. My perception of this community is that there isn't much talk about what actions we can take as a community to spread awareness and further the cause of equality. I feel as though a majority of the conversation here is about tearing down feminists and being so eager to point out hypocrisy to whip up outrage. Knocking someone down doesn't make you taller.

Obviously the first step to solving a problem is to identify the problem. The men's rights community has identified the issue of male inequality, the next step is raising public awareness to help them identify the issue as well.

This is the tricky bit, how do you raise awareness? You have to talk about it, the dialogue needs to be started.

So, how do we talk about the issue in a way that those we're trying to reach, perceive the the issue in a manner that that is relatable to them? In a way that will resonate and slowly start to evolution of the social climate associated with equality and men's rights, instead of coming off as hostile and standoffish with a chip on our collective shoulders.

To put it in a way that may better illustrate the issue: the men's rights community is arguably on the fringe of the perceived social norms. This means that the majority of society will generally fall within two other categories: people that identify as feminists and far larger, everyone else that either doesn't give it much thought or have moderate viewpoints on the issue. These moderates likely view the men's rights community in the same light that they view the women's rights community, fringe groups that go overboard with rhetoric and are quick to grasp at any perceived injustice no matter how slight.

The MR community, I think, would benefit from a social climate that also supports equality for women. Equality is equality, I don't think there's a valid agrument to be made that women don't face inequality in different ways than men.

These are just some observations that I've made in my time lurking r/mensrights.
