My son has dmd. Not only does if effect almost exclusivly boys, it has a 100% mortality rate, is present in one in 3500 boys and is the single most common fatal genetic disease. Its theoretically possible for girls to get it but incredibly rare as they'd have to inherit the same exon deletion from both parents as its an x chromisomal disease.

I will say this while the disease might only kill little boys, it absolutely impacts fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandmothers, grandfathers, cousins and friends. No disease only impacts the person it makes sick. Good news though there are some incredibly promising genetic treatments in development so hope is there.

Wow, this is the first time I have ever seen women go out of their way to raise money for a cause that exclusively benefits men and boys. Usually they will only support programs that are gender neutral or exclusively benefit women. As a man I am constantly expected to support programs that exclusively benefit women, and its just taken for granted that we will help.

I am bothered by the fact that this is a charity that in large part, raises money for boys. I am tired of people thinking the only way to raise money is to use sex.

Let's be honest here: This is about them being fawned over for being attractive.

That is... Genuinely sweet :) I have never seen actual altruism towards men from a women's group before. I may have to revise some of my general attitudes towards women....

I want to upvote this post so much. It's an uplifting and positive story, but the source is DailyMail. So, I'm not sure if all or any of it is fabricated. It's just not a trusty or reputable site.
