OP, I hope you understand that the anger behind circumcision is not aimed at men who ARE circumcized... it's aimed at people who DO the circumcisions to others against their will.

No one is bashing anyone who was cut, with or without their own consent. We're bashing the ones who want to cut people against their will.

Well I'm sorry, but this part is just wrong. It's taking knives to genitals for no reason other than tradition, they are both directly comparable to each other. Calling it "abhorrent" to compare the two makes no sense at all.

I'm not a huge fan of the 'women behaving badly' aspect either, but I can understand the desire to point out instances of treachory that are being let slide because the perp is female.

I consider getting gigantic ear studs a mutilation, or implanting spikes in one's scalp. Some men even choose to slice their penis down the middle for some reason. It's all mutilation. The difference is that most circumsized men didn't choose that. If you chose to be circumsized at age 20 and had it done, I'd support your right to do that. Like any extreme body modification, it's a mutiliation, but it's your choice, and I'm ok with that.

I'm sure you're all very passionate about your stance on circumcision and you have every right to your beliefs and opinions....

As I said, I'm cut too. It's not uncommon here for men who are happy with being circumsized to take offense at the intactivist stance. I don't hate you and I'm glad you're happy with your body. Me, and many others here, are not. I want every man to be able to choose for himself whether or not he wants to be cut. A part of achieving that goal is having to denormalize the process. I'm not mad at my parents for cutting me. The doctor said something along the lines of, "hey, I'm going to cut him, ok?" and they agreed. I have to live with what I'm left with and I know I can't change it, but I understand that an important part of my penis is missing and I want other men to be able to experience it.

Using offensive terms and comparing circumcision to FGM is abhorrent IMO.

The process of performing unnecessary body modification on minors is the same whether it's an innie or an outie. In extreme cases, FGM is a lot worse, but most cases are actually fairly comparable in terms of tissue damage and future sexual dysfunction. The biggest difference is that the male version is condoned and actually supported by western medicine and the other is condemned.

We call it mutilation if anything like this is performed on girls, but we really don't want to call it mutilation if its performed on boys. This is one of the reasons for why we need an MRM

I'm cut too, and in my opinion it is a form of mutilation. Young male infants do die from this unnecessary procedure.

mutilate:

1. to injure, disfigure, or make imperfect by removing or irreparably damaging parts: Vandals mutilated the painting.
1. to deprive (a person or animal) of a limb or other essential part.

What you're trying to do is police language use, and that's a no no around here. This is what feminists have done, and continue to do, which is a huge detriment to any movement.

I think it's awfully strange that FGM is considered mutilation, when in North America it is also called labiaplasty and is gaining popularity among adult women.

I also think it's awfully strange to be prescribing surgery to infants and using sexually transmitted diseases as an excuse. Infants don't have sex, that's sick as fuck.

I have seen both sides. I am circumcised, and honestly prefer it that way. However, I'm not someone who has to suffer from a botched infant/child circumcision. I sympathize with them. they have been mutilated no doubt. I wouldnt have it done to a potential son either.

I don't care that you're circumcised either. I have nothing whatsoever against circumcision and as far as I know no one on this board does. What we do have a problem with is infant circumcision and a disrespect for men's bodily autonomies.

You are allowed to be happy with your circumcised penis but many, many men are not.

That is very unfair of everyone. I believe this should be a place for healthy discussion and not a place where we just shout people of differing opinions down. As someone who has been actively commenting on this sub for months and been a lurker for much longer, I believe that, while there are the occasional exceptions, we tend to be mostly respectful of other opinions (including my own in some cases).

That said, I am finding it very difficult to have sympathy for you personally. I have been in a conversation with you in another thread here. You are doing the exact same fucking thing you are complaining about. You are belittling my beliefs and my life in general (not to mention many other men here), because I am a circumcised man that is against circumcision. How is that any fucking different than me putting you down for being a circumcised man that is okay with circumcision (which for the record I didn't, nor would I).

So I am sorry that you don't feel your views are welcome here. I think they should be, but there are always going to be those assholes who shout down dissenting opinions. But if you yourself aren't going to contribute to healthy debate without debasing yourself to petty insults, then you really shouldn't be welcome here anyways.

Sounds like you spend an unhealthy amount of time thinking about something that you can never change and which may barely even matter.

I agree that it is important to be sensitive to the feelings of victims of MGM, especially, for women not to specify a preference for one or the other, or not to impugn the manliness of victims. HOWEVER, that does not mean suppressing the truth. What could be a bigger relief for the cut than to see the barbaric practice eradicated once and for all?

I'm going to say this because I think it needs to be said. Circumcision, whether OP thinks so or not, is a hugely important issue and it is mutilation.

However... the reactions displayed by users here is frightening. They're absolutely right that MGM needs more focus... but the vitriol being shown towards people who don't take the exact same position is discouraging.

Slut-shaming is a problem... that doesn't mean it's the biggest problem in the world or that you can't derail a conversation by focusing on slut-shaming, as I'm sure many of you are aware feminists do.

People need to stop assuming anyone who doesn't fall in line with MRM rhetoric falls in line with feminist rhetoric. Give people the benefit of the doubt... don't jump to unwarranted conclusions and demonize those who you can implicitly draw misandric links to.

This is how feminism turned into a hive mind. Clichés over principles. That is backwards. Seriously... don't let this movement provide the lens through which you see the world. Evidence, reason and compassion made you an MRM... those principles shouldn't be forgotten.

Yeah... I feel you and I agree and disagree with different interpretations of how we should be anti-MGM. I agree we have a right to compare MGM and FGM as analogous acts, and if someone is against FGM, they should be against MGM. We should be against mutilation without consent in general.

But... this is where I disagree with many MRAs... it's not wrong to consider the possibility of one being worse than the other. That doesn't change how we should judge the act, but simply thinking FGM is generally worse isn't morally wrong. Also... when someone is discussing FGM in the context of backward misogynistic Islamic cultures, I do think saying "but what about MGM" is actually derailing.
