I can't imagine a husband doing this to a wife. He might cheat her with her best friend but I couldn't imagine a man betraying his wife with a child killer from his youth. I would argue cheating with her friend isn't much better than cheating with a criminal. She would have to not only heal from the damage he did by cheating but also from trust issues that may affect her ability to have close female friends in the future.

The criminal part damages her more than him.
