You dont have to be strangers. I have developed a nice relationship with my ex. We even enjoy time together at school functions and such.

I wasnt clear from your post if you lost a child. I lost one with my ex and thats a special bond. Only people that have been through it understand.

I am deeply sorry for your loss.

It took me and my ex about six months to figure out how to move forward and that it could be a good deal.

I was walking through a crowded area today and heard a guy say "my wife doesn't like..." as a reason he couldn't do something he enjoyed and I thought "I don't have to deal with that crap anymore!".

Agreed with everyone else! It reminds me of Gotye “now you’re just somebody that I used to l know….” It describes this feeling we all have had. 16 years together, 7 married. I get it. Hang in there - work on yourself and the world is at your feet now!

Forget the wilderness. Walk into a gym and start working on yourself. You are not in a worse situation, just a different one. You are going to find things you miss about your old life, but you are going to find a lot of things that make you happy in your new life.

Being strangers is what you need right now. Limit your contact to only things children related. You will be better off.

In the time since our separation I have lost 45 pounds, I'm fit, new friend group, and found a wonderful woman that I see a future with.

Keep your head up.

It is going to get better. Not right away, but it will. You have to be strong until it does. It can take a few months, it may take more than a year, but you will get there stronger and better than before.
