Trust and Lawyer are oxymorons

I trusted my lawyer and it was the best decision. I knew what I wanted and he tailored it to what was possible and cheapest to attain. Believe me there was a time he turned down going to court with me because he said, save the money for the other stuff, but I can come and hold your hand and charge you though. He’s saved my existence and my kids safety. I owe him a lot. I’m one of those suspicious people about lawyers but he really shows up for me. He’s never late and he’s always prepared. I see his notes about my case: pages of it. Handwritten but he way in sections. I knew he was the real deal.

Yes. My case cost about $15k, I also paid most of my ex's fees.y divorce was not amicable. We had three separate pre-trial conferences with a judge.

Without my lawyer I would have blindly accepted some of my ex's terms just to "get it over with."

Some issues I had with my lawyer revolved around me. E.g., I didn't know what I wanted in terms of custody or even the financial split. A lot of time/money was wasted communicating with my lawyer - for me - to figure out what I wanted.

My point. Figure out yourself- exactly - what you want. Tell you lawyer and leave it be. Do not use your lawyer as a therapist. Advocate for yourself and control you case accordingly. If not, they CAN take you for a ride.

If you can’t trust your lawyer then you need to find a new one.

When I first started looking, I met with 3 lawyers before I chose one. You want an attorney who is going to fight for you. Not someone who is passive or someone who is going to argue with you why you’re wrong.

I did because I did a ton of research to pick wisely. Only had to pay the retainer fee of $3500.

Helped that we didn't drag out the process at all.

He actually used a timer to keep his time legit.
