So me and my wife split up in late November. It was my decision. I moved out. We have two older kids, both adults, one still lives in the house. It's been amicable and friendly the entire time. About 2 weeks after I moved out she text me that she misses me and that she wishes I would come home. I initiated the separation due to feeling neglected and not valued. We were together for over 20 years and it had been steadily declining over the past five. About a month and a half ago I was feeling really homesick, for the normalcy and the stability that my former life was. And I text her that I missed her and that I wanted to come home and go back. Am I dumb to think that if I go back things are going to change to make each other happy? What are some experiences that you have had about separating and then going back together? We have both agreed to start marriage counseling before I actually move back in, if if, I move back in. What are some of your experiences with marriage counseling during a separation?
