Hey, I’ve never been divorced but have had some bad breakups and that’s how I found “The Rational Male,” and some other content. I think they’d say the first thing you should do is consult a lawyer as soon as possible. Bring all of your questions and let them know the situation, you should be able to consult for about an hour. This is going to suck, but at least you can be prepared and better for you to file than her.

Edit: I’ll just drop the links here since people keep asking lol. First off I’d read the Unplugged Alpha which is a great intro into the Rational Male. It doesn't have to be EOW on the weekends. It can be Wed-Friday. Judges will understand your schedule.

Secondly, keep this in mind after you're done so you don't get married again: 60% and 70% divorce rates for 2nd and 3rd marriages. Don't do it again.

I divorced in WA and had always worked Th, Fri, Sat nights 7p-7a and the multitude of judges she tried to change my work schedule through they all refused to do it.

I also was always a very involved hands on dad. I cared for our kids from 5 weeks on at home by myself Sun afternoon till Th about noon for 6 years before my divorce.

You need a good attorney…..or be one of the lucky ones that has an ex that is amicable from the get go.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Most divorced people work at some point during their custody hours. Hire someone/a service to care for your children when you aren't available.

If you're not going to be able to parent equally due to your schedule and your work - and you're willing or able to change to a job where you're able to provide stability, those are just facts you'll have to deal with that will impact the result. Even in the best cases it's hard to get true 50/50. Get used to the idea of writing those checks.
