Outline: file, other party is served, mediation / arbitration / trial, final documents filed, divorce. Some states have waiting periods, ranging from 90d just waiting to 1 year separation prior.

If everyone is amicable. Then either a DIY or mediation is the way to go. You generate all needed paper work (assets, debts, bank accounts, vehicles, possessions, etc). It all goes into a spreadsheet. All assets and debts get divided 50/50. If there are children you work out custody, residency and support. If one party qualifies then spousal support.

You can actually get the whole thing done in 2-4 weeks if everyone is up front, honest, on board and amicable.

If you have kids there are many things to consider and have in your decree so you don’t get screwed. There are many subtleties, but your attorney will not call them out or think to.

There's a lot to consider: state of residence, children, assets are the big ones. If y'all agree on how that's all to be managed post marriage, it can be relatively short. If not, it can take a while.

Accept the papers. They are usually filed in 24-72 hours. As long as her terms aren't unreasonable then have YOUR LAWYER review and agree.

Divorce is not the time to DIY. Using an attorney is the norm.
