Hi Folks,
I am finally close to the end of an almost 2 year battle for a simple divorce...Anyway as part of the divorce settlement I need to return some jewellery that I gifted my ex-wife back to her. The approx value of the jewellery if around $40,000 USD
I have provided photos of the jewellery that I will be giving back to her and she has also provided back photos on what she expects, all photos match up.
The plan is to return the items to her lawyer in the morning and she will collect these from him in the afternoon. I don't want to see my ex-wife or her family as they very violent hence this suggestion.
Based on past events, my concern is she will look at the jewellery and start saying things like
"this isn't the same jewellery"
"this isn't the item I expected" etc.
With her plan being to extort more money out of me by saying the items are in-correct.
How can I stop this from happening? I have spoken to several other lawyers who suggest what I am saying won't happen but I know my ex wife and her family.
One idea i had was to get a valuation performed by a jeweller and then provide the items to her, this issue with this is she could suggest 'Oh you switched the items" or she may not even agree with the jewellers report example , "your report says this is a 12ct ring, but I have a receipt here showing its 22ct you switched them"
As part of this settlement she has already provided fake receipts (which I concluded as fake based on the dates of purchase), when I questioned these it was simply ignored.
Any ideas I would really appreciate as I've already lost a significant amount of money due to her games.
